_ ' • WHEREAS, the week of October 6 -12, 2002 has been designated
as Fire Prevention Week by the National Fire
r - -. ''�� Protection Association and the International
Association of Fire Chiefs; and
WHEREAS, Fire Prevention Week is designed to focus attention
4: on fire prevention services such as inspections of
businesses, schools, hospitals and rest homes, as
El, well as pre -fire planning of commercial and industrial
- ,t facilities; and
`' aE S, Fire Prevention Week emphasizes the importance of increasing public
awareness on the dangers of fire through fire safety education and highlights
. the wide range of fire prevention community education programs available
and presented year- round; and
WHEREAS, this year's theme, "Team Up for Fire Safety" encourages fire departments to
team -up with community partners in order to spread the message that fire
safety saves lives. The campaign focuses on safety lessons that can be
learned by all: installing and testing approved smoke alarms, practicing
escape plans and hunting for home hazards. The safety team begins with
firefighters and other first responders, but they cannot do it alone and need
kids, parents, and everyone to team up behind them; and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Fire Authority "teams -up" with numerous "partners in
community safety," like the Orange County Sheriff, Orange County Health
• Care Agency, American Red Cross, Children's Hospital of Orange County,
SAFE KIDS, retail outlets, schools, houses of worship, businesses, senior
citizen groups and community groups to name a few; and
WHEREAS, with the assistance of fire safety advocates throughout the United States and
Canada, the National Fire Protection Association hopes to make the team
effort a reality, ensuring that families are more prepared than ever to prevent
or survive a home fire; and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Fire Authority is recognizing Fire Prevention Week by
conducting an OPEN HOUSE on Saturday, October 12, 2002, at most of its fire
stations throughout Orange County where residents can meet their
firefighters, tour the stations and receive fire safety and fire prevention
materials.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Seal Beach does hereby declare the
week of October 6 -12, 2002 as
FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
in the County of Orange and urges all citizens to visit their nearest Orange County Fire
Authority fire station on Saturday, October 12, 2002 to become better bcquainted with their
fire department and its fire prevention services.
