California met in regular adjourned session with Mayor Pro Tempore Holden presiding.. The meeting was called to order with the Salute to the Flag. ROLL CALL I Present: Mayor Pro Tempore Holden Councilmen Hogard, Sales, Smith Absent; Mayor Baum EXECUTIVE PERSONNEL SESSION The Council recessed to executive personnel session at 7:02 p.m. The Council reconvened at 7:40 p.m. with Mayor Pro Tempore Holden calling the meeting to order. RESIGNATION - INTERIM CITY ATTORNEY BENTSON Sales moved, second by Smith to accept the resignation of Interim City Attorney James Bentson. AYES: Holden. Hogard. Sales. Smith I NOES: None ABSENT: Baum Motion carried 4-12-71 ;mG Mrs. Casares requested information regarding a letter from the State Attorney General to Mr. Bentson relating to Ordinance 834 and 835. The Council deferred the matter for legal counsel. ORDINANCE NUMBER 838 - DEPUTY CITY ATTORNEY Ordinance Number 838 was read in full entitled "AN ORDINANCE I OF THE CITY OF SEAL 8EACH. CALIFORNIA, A CHARTER CITY. REPEALING ORDINANCE NUMBER 837 AND ALL OTHER ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH." Sales moved. second by Smith. to approve the first reading of Ordinance Number 838 and pass it to second reading. AYES: Holden, Hogard, Sales, Smith NOES: None ABSENT: Baum Motion carried The City Manager read the letter from Glenn'.R. Watson, Attorney, stating proposed conditions of employment as City Attorney and for Deputy City Attorney. RESOLUTION NUMBER 1973 - CITY ATTORNEY - COMPENSATION Resolution Number 1973 was read in full entitled "A RESOLUTION I OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL 8EACH. CALIFORNIA. A CHARTER CITY, PRESCRIBING THE SALARY AND COMPENSATION OF THE CITY ATTORNEY, AND REPEALING. ON THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS RESOLUTION, ALL RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT THEREWITH." Holden moved, second by Sales. to adopt Resolution Number 1973. AYES: Holden, Hogard, Sales, Smith NOES: None ABSENT: Baum Motion carried I RESOLUTION NUMBER 1974 - AGREEMENT - RICHARD, WATSON, DREYFUSS Resolution Number 1974 was read in full entitled. "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH APPROVING THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY AND THE LAW FIRM OF RICHARD. WATSON & DREYFUSS, AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION THEREOF IN BEHALF OF THE CITY". Sales moved. second by Smith. to adopt Resolution Number 1974. AYES: Holden. Keeler, Jr.. as Deputy City Attorney. Smith moved, second by Sales. that Mr. Watson replace Mr. Bentson in the case of Bledsoe vs. City of Seal Beach in Los Angeles Superior Court. AYES: Holden, Hogard. Sales, Smith NOES: None I ABSENT: Baum Motion carried ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Mayor Pro Tem Holden stated that there were a few minutes for oral communications.
