AMENDMENT
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
That the City Council adopt Resolution No. 6167 accepting the 2011 grant funding
from the Run Seal Beach Committee for the Community Services Department in
the amount of $17,000 and Seal Beach Junior Lifeguard Program in the amount of
$3,600; appropriate in the 2011/12 annual budget; and approve Budget
Amendment No. 12- 01 -01.
BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS:
At the June 27, 2011 City Council meeting, the Run Seal Beach Committee
announced the recipients of the 2011 grants.
All grants are awarded through an application process and reviewed by the Run
Committee before being allocated to several non - profit or charitable community
organizations to provide recreation programs, services, and facilities. Attached to
this staff report as Attachment A is a list of grants awarded in 2011 for a record total
of $125,400 to 48 organizations across a wide range of community program needs.
The Run Seal Beach Committee is very committed to making the annual event one
of high quality and a source of pride for Seal Beach. This event hosts over 5,500
participants each year, and the Committee is a non - profit organization whose
charter is to raise funds and awareness for recreation programs, services, and
facilities in the greater Seal Beach community. The Run Seal Beach non - profit
organization has been in existence since 1999, although the organization has
sponsored runs for 38 years. The Run Seal Beach event has continued to grow in
attendance and contributions every year. The event is planned, managed and
executed 100% by volunteers.

The Seal Beach Community Services Department received a grant for $17,000 to
purchase equipment that will help to promote and enhance recreation programs as
well as improve City facilities that are used to support recreation activities. The
funds will be used for the following projects:
• Park workout stations
• Marina Park basketball court benches
• Drinking fountains for Seal Beach Tennis Center
• Permanent Beach Volleyball Nets
The Seal Beach Junior Lifeguard Program received a grant for $3,600 to fund:
• Scholarships for the 2011 Summer Junior Lifeguard Program
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Budget Amendment No. 12 -01 -01 for the amounts above will adjust the 2011/12
budget and authorize staff to appropriate the funds. The increases in revenues and
expenditures have no impact on the adopted budget.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council adopt Resolution No. 6167 accepting the 2011 grant funding
from the Run Seal Beach Committee for the Community Services Department in
the amount of $17,000 and Seal Beach Junior Lifeguard Program in the amount of
$3,600; appropriate in the 2011/12 annual budget; and approve Budget
Amendment No. 12- 01 -01.

A RESOLUTION OF THE SEAL BEACH CITY COUNCIL
AUTHORIZING BUDGET AMENDMENT NO. 12 -01 -01 REVISING
THE FISCAL YEAR 2011/12 BUDGET
THE SEAL BEACH CITY COUNCIL HEREBY RESOLVES THAT:
Section 1 . The City Manager has requested the City Council amend its fiscal
year 2011/2012 budget to increase revenues and expenditures for the Run Seal
Beach Grant funds received for Community Services Department and the Junior
Lifeguard Program; and
Section 2. The City Manager has requested the City Council amend the fiscal
year 2011/2012 budget to increase revenues and expenditures as stated below.
The City Council hereby approves Budget Amendment No. 12 -01 -01 and directs
the City Manager to amend the FY 2011/2012 Budget to reflect the following
revisions and amendments:
