HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Min 1966-08-01 6'3." Seal Beach, California August 1, 1966 I The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in regular session at 8::00 p.m. with Mayor Gummere presiding. The meeting was called to order.with the .Pledge of Allegiance. Present: Mayor Gummere Councilmen Anderson, Gemmill, Hamilton, Dreis None Absent: Regular demands Number 411 through 459, in the amount of $27,798.16; and Payroll demands Number 7600 t~ough 7749 in the amount of $35,727.97, total amount $63,526.13 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented. It was moved by Anderson and seconded by Dreis that the demands be allowed and . warrants drawn on the treasury for the same. AYES : NOES: Anderson, Gemmill, Hamilton, Dreis, Gummere None Motion carried. A letter from Mrs. Matt Wall commending the staff at the I . Community Sw1mm1ng Pool was received and filed. Mrs. Merva Lanning urged everyone to attend the "Seal Beach Leisure World Night" at the Hollywood Bowl, August 27, 1966. The Mayor announced that this was the time and place for a ~ Pool - .. General public hearing on the General Plan for the City of Seal Beach. Plan The clerk reported that the notice of a hearing had been posted- as provided by ordinance and that no written objections had been received. Miss Charlotte Shuman, 204 Ocean Avenue, objected to high-rise buildings along the breakwater as it would impair the view and retard ocean breezes. Mrs. Rita Herron felt that such buildings would not affect the majority. I . The Mayor expressed thanks to those stating their views and declared the hearing closed. The City Manager stated that the Oity Council by Resolution Number 1475 and approved by the City Attorney had appointed F. W. Hickman, Oity Treasurer to fill out the unexpired term of James N. Scott, deceased, at an adjourned meeting held July 30, 1966. City Treas. ( 64 General ~ General .ll!n Sunset Beach It was moved by. Gemmill and seconded by Hamilton that the area West of Fifth Street, Marina Drive and Coast Highway be referred back to the Planning Commission for further study and report back at the next meeting. I A general discussion of the General Plan followed with the City Council, City Manager, City Attorney and City Engineering taking part. It was moved by Gemmill and seconded by Gummere to refer back to the Planning Commission fQr further study of the area East of the San Gabriel River and South of the flood control property on the Hellman Ranch. AYES: NOES: Anderson, Gemmill, Hamilton, Dreis, Gummere None Motion carried. It was suggested that the area North and South of Pacific Coast Highway be designated as something other than "Old Town." It was moved by Gemmill and seconded by Anderson that the City Council go on record to the effect that they have no current plans and no current interest in annexing the area known as Sunset Beach and Surfsidej and also let the record show that this Council of the City of Seal Beach has had no discussions with the residents of these areas and is not involved in any lawsuits affecting the area. The motion should also indicate that the motion be transmitted in wrttil'l.g~.to the City of Huntington Beach, the Sunset Beach Chamber of Commerce and the I press. It was moved by Gemmill and seconded by Hamilton to amend the motion by deleting the words "Current interest" in the former motion. AYES: NOES: Anderson, Gemmill, Hamilton, Dreis, Gummere None Motion carried. I Regular demands Number 460 to 602 incl. $49,612,99 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented. It was moved by Anderson and seconded by Dreis that the demands be allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasury for the same. AYES: NOES: Anderson, Gemmill, Hamilton, Dreis, Gummere None Motion carried.
