HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Min 1966-10-24 I I I 87 Seal Beach, California October 24, 1966 The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in regular adjourned session at 8:00 p.m. with Mayor Gummere presiding. The meeting was called to order with the Pledge of Allegiance. Present: Mayor GUIIDlIere Councilmen Anderson, Gemmill, Hamilton, Dreis Councilmen - None Absent: It was moved by Anderson and seconded by Dreis to approve the minutes of October 3, 1966, as presented. AYES: NOES: Anderson, Gemmill, Hamilton, Dreis, GUIIDlIere None MOtion carried. Regular demands Number 850 to 985 incl., $34,832.92 and Payroll demands Number'679 to 798 incl., $29,243.33 totaling $64,076.25 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented. It was moved by Dreis and seconded by Anderson that the demands be allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasury for the same. AYES: lNOES: Mr. Wilkerson of the Automobile Club of Southern California presented Police a Safety Award to the City. It was accepted by Chief of Police, Lee Dept. Anderson, Gemmill, Hamilton, Dreis, GUIIDlIere None MOtion carried. Case. Mr. Alexis A. Fafenrodt, Attorney for the Standard Oil Company of Oil California, addressed the Council, stating that his company had paid Tax the business license tax for their oil producing business under protest and outlined his objections. He further requested repeal of Ordinance Number 681. On advise of the City Attorney, it was moved by Gemmill and seconded by Anderson to hold the matter in abeyance until a later date. AYES: ABSTAIN: Anderson, Gemmill, Dreis, GUIIDlIere Hamil ton MOtion carried. Requests for refunds of license paid under Ordinance Number 681 were Oil presented by Standard Oil Company of California, Humble Oil Company, Tax and Signal Oil and Gas Company. It was moved by Gemmill and seconded by Anderson that the request for a refund by all three companies be denied. , AYES: ABSTAIN: Anderson, Gemmill, Dreis,'Gummere Hamil ton MOtion carried. .88 Pier SCAG Highways It was moved by Dreis and seconded by Gemmill that the request of a refund by Seal Beach Sport Fishing Inc. be denied. I Mr. Gemmill outlined the agenda of the forth coming. General Assembly Meet-ing of SCAG on November 4, 1966, and urged as many members of the Council to attend as he, as_ the Councils represen:... tative, would not be able to be there. Letter from the Division of Highways, Notice of Relinquishment of highway right of way (Los Alamitos Boulevard) was received and filed. J Letter from Norman E. (Entertainment Cafe-Amending) was presented by title by...the Cf..ty Attorney. It. was moved by Hamilton and seconded by Gummere to waive the second reading of Ordinance Number 694, that i~ be d~emed as having had its secontt-reading and be passed for adoption. AYES: NOES: Anderson, Gemmill, Hamilton, Dreis, Gummere None Motion carried. Ordinance Number ~95 (Public Dances-Amending), was presented by title by the City Attorney. It was moved by Gemmill and seconded by Dreis to waive the first reading of Ordinance Number 695, that it be deemed as having had its first reading and be passed to the second reading. It was moved by Dreis and seconded by Anderson to wa~ve the first reading of Ordinance Number 696, that it be deemed as having had its first reading and be passed to the second reading. It was decided to withhold 1490 the adoption of Resolution Number 1490 'pending the securing of proper signatures on the bill of sale. Resolution Number 1491 (North American Aviation-Grant Deed Easement- ~. Resolution Number 1493 (Sanitation District Number 4-Agreement) was Reso. presented by the City Attorne~. Bids opened October 7, 1966, at 2:00 p.m. for one 4-wheel, 3 cubic Sweeper yard street sweeper were as follows: DEARTH MACHINERY CO. $13,716.00 Single Broom 14,716.00 Double Broom " THE MOBILE SWEEPER CORP. 12,867.00 Single Broom 13,811.00 Double Broom It was moved by Anderson and seconded by Gemmill to accept the bid Sweeper of Mobile Sweeper at $12,867.00 SINGLE BROOM, that the Gity Manager be authorized to make the purchase and that all other bids be rejected.
