The City Council of the City of Seal Besch met in regular
session at 8:00 p.m. with Mayor Gemmill presiding. The meeting was
called to order with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Present: Mayor Gemmili .
Councilmen: Anderson. Leonard Gri~wold
Absent: "" Nescher
This being the time and place for an appeal of variances
granted Dave Stangeland. 1499 Seal Way. the Mayor instructed the City
Attorney to'conduct the hearing. The City Clerk presented letters and
petitions of protest from Anna K. Dyrr, Lalita Norton. Don C. BrOCkway.
Frank Shufelt and twenty nine other property owners and a letter of
approval from Hayes Robbins Jr. The Clerk also reported that proper
notices had been mailed April 22. 1964. Speaking against the variances

Mrs. Reimer and June Ledger. Speaking for the variances. Donald Jones
Attorney for Mr. Stangeland and Tom Crowley. Mr. Griswold questioned
the layout and numbers of parking spaces. After more discussion by
members of the City Council. the Mayor declared the hearing closed.
It was moved by Anderson and seconded by Leonard. to deny all variances.
Mr. Anderson. withdrew his motion. Mr. Jones asked the Council to con-
sider those variances they approve and deny those they oppose. It II
was moved by Gemmill and seconded by Griswold to approve variances
No.1. 3. 4 and deny variance No.2. Mr. Gemmill withdrew his

mobion. It was moved by Gemmill to instruct the City. Attorney to
draw up a resolution for the next meeting setting forth the action
of the Council granting or denial. Lost for want of a second. Mr.
Stangeland requested, permission to withdraw his request for all
variances. It was moved by Anderson and seconded by Griswold to
accept the request of Mr. Stangeland to_withdraw his ~equest for
variances.

Mr. William Thomas inquired about requirements in the event
he should buyout the Biyu from its present owners. The Council ex-
pressed its opinion of the unsatisfactory operation at present and

opinion regarding subsurface oil leasing in the City.
The report of the City Manager and City Attorney on lease
modification for the Seal Beach Sportfishing Inc. was discussed and
referred back. to the City Attorney. to prepare modifications to the
