The meeting . was called to order with the Pledge of Allegiance. Preeent: Mayor Anderson Councilmen: Nescher, Gemmill, Griswold Absent: II " Gummere It was moved by Gemmill and seconded by Griswold to excuse Councilman Gummere who is out of the City. AYES: ABSENT: Nescher, Gemmill, Griswold, Anderson (}ummere Motion carried. I It was moved by Griswold and seconded by Gemmill to approve the minutes of April 5, 1965 as presented. AYES: Nescher, Gemmill, Griswold, Anderson ABSENT: Gummere Motion carried. Regular demands No. 7499 to 7584 inclusive, totaling $47,470.78, and Payroll demands No. 4081 to 4185 inclusive, totaling $71,382.50 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented. It v.a moved by Nesch~r and seoonded by Griswold that the deMands be allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasury for the same. AYES: ABSENT: Nescher, Gemmill. Griswold, Anderson Gummere Motion carried. Mr. Harold Chestnut introduoed Mr. Vernon Leckman who presented a remodeling design for Main Street. A display of the proposed project was on display in the lobby. It was moved by Nescher and seconded by Griswold to accept the drawings as presented and that ,the.commi~tee and Mr. Leckman be commended for their efforts. AYES: ABSENT: . Resolution No. 1376 (AB 1313 - supporting) was discussed. It was moved by Griswold and seconded by Gemmill to a dopt Resolution No. 1376. Resc 1.l71 AYES: ABSENT: Nescher. Letters and resolutions from the City of Orange and the , City of Eong Beach urging support of Senate Constitutional Amendment SCA #17 #17 were disc~ssed. It was moved by Nescher and seconded by Griswold to receive and file the communications. AYES: ABSENT: Nescher, Gemmill, Griswold, Anderson Gummere Motion carried. Resolution No. 1377 (AB 346 and AB 431-opposing) was pre- Heso. sented by the City Manager. It was moved by Gemmill and seconded by 1)77 Griewold to adopt Resolution No. 1377. It was moved by Gemmill and seconded by Griswold that the Mayor address a letter to the city of Long Beach, Alamitos Heights Association, "and the state Division of Highways opposing any con- struction of causeways in this area. On motion of Nesoher and seconded by Gemmill aation was deferred to the next meeting on a letter and two resolutions from the Orange County Traffic Investigator's Association requesting the eupport of SB 41 'and 42. A letter from the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce requesting city financial assistance was discussed and action deferred for further study. A letter from the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce requesting . the closing of Main Street from ~lectl'ic Avenue to Central Avenue on July 4, 1965. to allow for a celebration event was discussed. More infor.mation needed about the complete program. The Mayor declared a five minute recess. The meeting reconvened at 9:48 p.m. Ordinance No. 661 (Standard Gas Company - Franchise) was pl'esented by title by the City Manager. It was moved by Griswold I . and seconded by Nescher to waive the second reading of Ordinance No. 661, that it be deemed as having had its second reading and be passed for adoption. " l'eg8rding the alleged practice of renting apartments for party purpose~. Reports of the Building, City'Treasurer. Financial, and Public Works Departments for March, 1965, were received a nd filed. After considerable discussion it was moved by Gemmill I /I. Og. Co. and seconded by Griswold not to ratify West Orange County Water iTater 30ard Board's Resolution No. 51:65. M & J Equipment Company $5,557.32 6,260.80 5,100.32 Air On the recommendation of the Director ,of Public Works, it was moved by Nescher' and seconded by Griswold to accept the bid of Engine and Equipment Cpmpany for one LeHoi 150 Air Compressor at $5,557.32 and to reject all other bids.
