The City ~ngineer submitted an analsis and recommenda- tions for the purchase of oertain equipment as advertised for bids; 1. It was moved by Spencer and seconded by ~ancre that the bid of Cormier Chevrolet Company for one 3/4 ton truck with body, Model 3603 be acoepted at $ 2158.71 net, with the trade-in of 1941 Dodge, Flatbed 1Tuck. After reading a letter from the Recreation Gommission and reports from Tancre and Spencer, it waa moved by Tancre and Rec. Comm. seconded by Spencer that Valerie Sneed be employed on a tempor- ary basis at $316.00 per month as Supervisor of Activities as recommended by the Commission, pending an examination by the Civil Service Board for the position. Braitsch, relative to the illness of Patrolman John Demarest and a six months leave of absence with- Polic Dept. out pay, was received and filed. Letter from the Family Service Association of Orange County requesting the observance of "Family Week" was approved. Request of Governor Goodwin J. Knight to observe "Fire Service D/;\Y" - May 4th, 1957 was approved. Acknowledgement by Assemblyman Richard T. Hanna in support of AB 1502 was received and filed. . Letter from Mrs. Bonnie B. Abata reBarding the beach Beacb was discussed. It was decided to clean the beach twice a week for the present and during the peak period to assign one man to the beach for cleaning only. It was also decided to arrange to replace the fire rings and to prepare to pave the 8th street par'king lot. It was moved by Tancre and seconded by Ross that the Polic Chief of.Police be instructed to present his recommendation and request for Police Patrolman as needed. 32 rolice Dept. Reeves and Willard Hanzlik speaking against the renewal of the lease and Councilmen Ross and Tancre in favor of the renewal as proposed. Mr. Buck read the renewal agreement in detail. It was moved by Spencer and seconded by Flanagan to withhold the execution of the agreeMent for thirty days for further study and investiBation .with the City Engineer and Marine Committee instructed to make the study and report. AYES: NOES: Flanagan, Spencer, Calvo Tancre, Ross Motion carried. Resolution No. 956 (Oil Drilling-Surface Easement) was presented by the City Attovney. Mr. Trygg also mentioned county flood.control matters as it applied to the annexation. I. The meeting was called to order with the Pledge of Allegiance. Present: Mayor Calvo Councilmen: Tancre, Ross, Flanagan, Spencer Absent: " None " The minutes of the regular meeting of April 16th, the Special Meeting of April 25th and the regular .adjourned Meeting . of April 30th, 1957 were read and approved on the Mayor's motion. Mayor Calvo spoke briefly in r.egard to cooperation with the subdividers as it concerns all city departments. Sub Div. Mr. ~oss inquired as to the advisibility of charging a Lie- business license for vehicles making only one stop in the City. It was explained by the City Attorney that our charge was in line with most cities in the area. ense Reports of the Police.
