QL (?~ Mayor Attest: /a;~~dl_- City Clerk Seal Beach, California May 7, 1957 The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in regular session at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor Calvo presiding. The meeting was called to order with the Pledge of Allegiance. Present: Mayor Calvo Councilmen: Tancre, Ross, Flanagan, Spencer Absent: " None " The minutes of the regular meeting of April 16th, the Special Meeting of April 25th and the regular .adjourned Meeting . of April 30th, 1957 were read and approved on the Mayor's motion. Mayor Calvo spoke briefly in r.egard to cooperation with the subdividers as it concerns all city departments. Sub Div. Mr. ~oss inquired as to the advisibility of charging a Lie- business license for vehicles making only one stop in the City. It was explained by the City Attorney that our charge was in line with most cities in the area. ense Reports of the Police. Building, License, Water.and Tax Departments for the month of April. 1957 were presented. It was moved by Spencer and seconded by Tancre to receive and file the City Officers reports. AYES: NOES: Tancre, Ross, Flanagan, Spencer, Calvo None Motion carried. Demands numbering 5450 to 555~ inclusive, totaling $10,687.93 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented. It was stated by Mr. Trygg that it would be filed soon. Mr. Ross told of the reactivation of the local Chamber or Commerce, it's plans and events to be scheduled. After dis- cussion it was moved by Ross and sec~nded by Spencer that the City allocate $100.00 per month to the Chamber of Commerce as allowed by General Law cities, commencing July 1, 1957. Anderson and fourteen other residents of the are~ requesting the return of the stop- sign on Ocean Avenue at 5th Street was presented. Other stop- signs for Fifth Street at Bolsa (south side), Eleventh at Cen- tral, Electric at Bay (north side), were recommended. The City Engineer was instructed to make a survey of the needs and report at next Council meeting. ( I Letter from George L. Duff, Realtor, requesting a non- conforming permit for 90 days to bring the building at 205 Main str~et up to code. It was moved by hoss and seconded by Tancre to issue a license to July 1st providing the building be brought up to code by that date. AYES: NOES: Tancre, Ross, Flanagan, Spencer, Calvo None Motion carried. . Proposal from Willard's Tree Service offering to trim all palm trees at $18.50 each, was discussed. Tree planting on Main Street and other areas was discussed with no definite action taken. Invitation to participate in the annual Orange County July 4th ~arade and Celebration at Huntington Beach was discussed. I Mayor Calvo to make arrangements. Mayor Calvo read an invitation to attend the Orange County Home Show, May 17th. Mayor Calvo to represent the City with Mr. Spencer as his alternate. Announcement of a joint meeting of the Orange.County and Los Angeles County Divisions of the League of Cities, Thurs- day,.May 23rd.. Disneyland Hotel. Clerks office to check for reservations. City Engineers Agenda Pier Canopy-Art Club. Bids were reviewed.. It was moved by Ross and seconded by Tancre to increase the allot- ment f~OM $400.00 to $550.00 and for the Engineer to proceed with the project. Police Department. Upon recommendation of the Chief of Police, it was moved by Ross and seconded by Spencer to re- employ and reinstate William Deeley as police patrolman at the grade and step last employed. AYES: NOES: Tancre, Ross, Flanagan, Spencer, Calvo None Motion carried. I Upon the recommendation of the Chief of Police, it was move~by Tancre and seconded by hoss to employ Gary Buzzard as police patrolman at Step B as qualified by Civil Service~ if Fluoridation of Water. Mr. Trygg gave a report of coste for the process. No action taken. County Gas Tax FUnds. Mr. Trygg reported that the Orange County Engineers had worked out a new formula for dis- tribution of tax funds to the cities that would be more equit- able. Gas Tax Sub dive 36 City Hall - city 'Hall S tree t Dept. relative to the expiration of the bond agreements which expire June lst., Pay Telephone After hearing a discussion to install a pay telephone in or near the Cit~ Hall, it was moved by Ross and seconded by Spencer to make the installation of a booth outside the Police Department, and the Mayor be authorized and instructed -to sign and execute the agreement. 1 AYES: NOES: Tancre. ~oss, Flanagan, Spencer, Calvo None Motion carried. Council Chambers An estimated figure of $1500.00 to remodel the council chambers ~as discussed. More plans and f~gures of costs needed. Mr. Tancre reported that speeding vehiples on the Seal Way alley were causing a definite traffic hazard and recommended the installation of pavement impressions to slow down traffic. This matter .was refer'red to the City Engineer. It was moved by Spencer and seconded by Ross to adjourn.
