The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in
regular session at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor Calvo presiding. The
meeting was called to order with the Pledge of Allegiance.

The minutes of the regular meeting of June 4. 1957
were read and approved on the Mayor1s motion.
The City Engineer reported that the Youth Center
Summer Swimming program in use inS the San Gabriel River
Channel was in danger ,of water pollution and called on Mr.

Harlan Schroth of the County Health Depart~ent to report his
findings in sampling the water. He reported that his depart-
ment could not recommend the use of the channel for the pro-

posed program. Mr. Trygg stated that he had contacted the
Long Beach Hecreation Department and that their facilities
would be made available.

the month of May 1957 were presented. It was moved by Flanagan
and seconded by Spencer to receive and file the City Officers
reports.

Letter from Diehl, Evans and Company, City Auditors:
relative to adequate office space and the proposed collection
of taxes by the County was discussed. In regard to office
space, estimates of costs were to be reported by the City
Engineer, collection of taxes by the County will depend en-

tirely on the total assessed valuation for the 1957-58 tax
year, it was reported by the City Assessor and Tax Collector.
Mayor Calvo requested information on the wests ide
drainage project. Mr. Trygg stated that the Pacific Electric
Company was holding up progress.

cants for the position of Clerk-Typist (female) by the Civi~
Service Board was received and filed.
Recommendation of the plan to establish an "Area of
Intluence Map" of the City as recommended by the Planning Commiss-
ion was approved.
Report and suggestions of O. W. Hasinbiller to improve
Ocean Avenue between First Street and the river channel was referred
to the City Engineer.
Request for zone change by Mark Taper, Inc. was referred
to the Planning Commission and the City Engineer for study.
Letter from Assemblyman Richard T. Hanna in reference

Mayor Calvo reported a sewage probleM 1n the Bolsa Chica

to try to work out the problem. Mr. Trygg reported that state
