The City Council of the.City of Seal Beaoh met in
regular session at 7:4.5 P.M. with Mayor Calvo presiding.The
meeting was called to order with the Bledge of Allegianoe.

The minutes of the regular meeting of september 3,.
1957 were r'ead and approved on the Mayor's: motion.

heports of the City Clerk and City Treasurer for
the month of August, 1957 were presented. It was moved by
Spencer and seconded by Tancre to receive and file the City
officers repo~ts.

Demands numbering 6306 to 638} inclusive, totaling
$16,484.96 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented.
It was moved by Ross and seconded by l"lanagan that the demands
be allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasury for the same.

Mr. Tancre stated the State Highway Department was
ready to issue permits to Mark Taper Ino. for"the improvement
of the corner at Main and Coast Highway and felt that the in-
tent of the Council in granting the zoning variance was to
permit the work to proceed. After some discussion it was

moved by Tancre and seconded by Spencer that building permits
be issued simultaneously with the State Highway Department
permits, for Lot 384 in Tract l8l7.

Letter from D. M. Callis, Chairman, Marine Advisory
Committee stating that a meeting with Long Beach officials

regarding boating regulations in the Marina, had been arranged
for September 18th.
Letter and donation of $lOO.OO for the "Trees for
~iain Streetll plan from R. B. Grotemat was dis"cussed. It was
moved by floss and seconded by Tancre to accept the donation
with thanks and to instruct the City Engineer to proceed with
the ",roject, after consulting proper' landscape authorities.

After conaerable discussion the City Engineer was authorized
to proceed with an orderly plan to clean lots.
Mr. Sponcer again urged the publication of a monthly
bulletin of council actions to acquaint the general public
with proceedings, expenditures, etc.
Mr. ilOSS opened a discussion of the request of Mr.
Hanzlik to make Electric Avenue a one-way street. The City
Attorney, street Committee and Engineer to make reoommendations
for preparation of the proper ordinance.
Request of Darrell D. Smead and ten other boat owners
to amend the boat storage ordinance to permit boats up to 22
feet in length to be kept on the boat owners property, was
referred to the City Attorney and Building Committee.
Announcement of the regular monthly meeting of the
Associated Chamber of Commerce, SepteMber 24th at Orange was
received and filed.

Mayor Calvo requested information on the tl1'ogress of

gress from the County. After hearing estimated costs, it was
moved by Tancre and seconded by Spencer to instruct the City
Engineer to proceed at not to exceed $4,000.00 total expendit-
ure with not to exceed $1,000.00 for any single item.

~w. Calvo also asked the City Engineer to investigate
and report the possible remodeling of the culverts at l5th and
16th Streets where the Paoific Electric Railway crosses these
streets.

Hequest of the Seal Beach Fire Department for "Fire

Mr. Trygg repor'ted that one water welt.lL was shut down
because of low water tables, but said that we should have
sufficient water during the rehabilitation program. Mrs.
Jessie Reed suggested that oil funds should be used for

The city Council of the city of Seal Beach met in
regular session at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor Calvo presiding. The
meeting was called tb order with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mayor Calvo announced that the first order of busi-
ness would be to open bids as advertised for the rehabilita-
tion of two water wells.
The bids opened were;
