Reso. .2lliL Reso. ~ Seal Beach, California March 4, 1958 The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in regular session at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor Calvo presiding. The Meeting was called to oI'der with the Pledge of Allegiance. Present: Mayor Calvo Councilmen: Flanagan, Ross, Spencer, Tancre Absent: " None II Because of the large and inte~ested audience, Mayor Calvo altered the regular order of business to explain plans for the drainage system. He stated that the Co~nty Flood Control District, the State Highway. Department, the subdividers and the City would participate in the program and that additional pumps were to be .installed immed,iately for emergency purposes. Members of the Council and audience took.part in a general discuss ion. The minutes of the regular Meeting of February 18th and the Special Meeting of Frbruary 28th, 1958 were read and approved on the Mayor1s motion. Reports of the ~uilding, Police, ~icense, Water and Tax Departments for the month of February, 1958 were presented. . It was moved by Spencer and seconded by Ross to receive and file the City Officers repo~ts. AYES: NOES: Flanagan, Ross, Spencer, Tancre, Calvo None Motion oarried. Demands, payroll No. 200 to 251 incl~sive and regular demands No. 7100 to 715J inclusive, totaling $12,410.60 ~s ~pproved by the Finance Committee were presented. It was moved by Flanagan and seconded by Ross that the demands be allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasury for the same. AYES: NOES: Flanasan, Ross, Spencer, Tancre, Calvo None Motion carried. Resolution No. 984 (Weed Abatement) was presented by title by the CIty Attorney. It was moved by Hoss and seconded by Tancre to waive the reading of Resolution No. 984. AYES :' NOES:: Flanagan, Ross, Spencer, Tancre, Calvo . None . Motion carried. It was moved by Spencer and seconded by Ross to adopt Resolution No. 984. Tabled for later discussion. Letter of protest from Mrs. Viola Mendoza in regard to the tree planting program for Main street was read. The . City Engineer was instructed to poll the merchants for their opinion. A~knowledgment of the expression of sympathy from Mary Curtis and family was received and filed. It was moved by Ross and seconded by Tancre that accrued vacation time be paid to the widow of Police Sergeant Paul Curtis". 'AYES: NOES: Flanagan, Ross, Spencer, Tancre, Calvo None Motion carried. Letter of thanks for flowers sent to the opening of Marina Bay Homes from James C. Young was reoeived and filed. Detter from the Public Utilities Commission in re- I gard to removal of 1023 of stub end track from l4th street to Bay Blvd., effective March 20th, 1958 was reoeived and filed. It was moved by Tancre and seconded by Spencer that the top three elegible condidates for Director. of Activities (Recrea- tion) as re'oommended by the Civil Service Board be submitted to the Recreation Commission for approval through proper channels. AYES: NOES: Flanagan, Ross, Spencer, Tancre, Calvo None Motion carried. It was moved by rtoss and seconded by Tancre that the top three elegible candidates for Maintenance Supervisor'as recommended by the Civi~ Service Board be sent to the depart- ment head for approval. AYES: NOES: Flanagan, Ross, Spencer, Tanore, Calvo None !10tion carried. It was 'moved by Ross and seconded by Spencer that the recoMMendation of the Civil Service Board to reclassify Graoe Irvine to Police Matron be referred to the Police Committee. It was moved by Tancre ~nd seconded by Spenoer that Mr. Trygg1s employment b~ terminated effective March 4, 1958 Cl.ty ~!S..:..... plus any accrued vacation time ear'ned. Here again a lengthy discussion followed. . '11 AYES: NOES: Flanagan, Spencer, Tenere, Calvo Ross Motion carried. It was moved by Ross and seconded by Spenoer to grant ~~. It was moved by Spenoer and seconded by Ross to in- struct the Mayor to oontact an engineering firm to work out the drainage project. Crosby, District Sales Representative' of the General Petroleum Corporation addressed the Counoil relative to the height..of the proposed city sign at Coast Highway and Main Street, that it would block-off the sign installed for the Mobile'station. After disoussion it was moved by Ross and . seconded by Spencer to negotiate with the Santa Ana Neon Comp- City Sign any to raise the sign two feet and the General Petroleum Corp. to negotiate to lower their sign two feet.
