The meeting was oalled to order with the Pledge of Allegianoe. Present: Mayor. Gi bbs\ Councilman: II 1t Flanagan, Jones, Leonard, Gemmill None Absent: Mayor Gibbs announoed that the invocation would be given at alternate meetings by pastors of the local churches. It was moved by Gemmill and seconded by Jones to approve the minutes of July 19th as oorrected. AYES: NOES: Flanagan, Jones, Leonard, Gemmill, Gibbs None Motion oarried. Payroll demands No. 3446 to 3516 inclusive, .totaling $11,166.71 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented. was moved by Jones and seoonded by Flanagan that the demands be It allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasury for the same. AYES: NOES: Flanagan, Jones, Leonard, Gemmill, Gibbs None Motion oarried. Announoement of the August meeting of the Orange County Coast Assooiation was received and filed. Letter ~rom the Marina Land Company relative to license Lic. for out of town realtors was disoussed. It was moved ~y Gemmill and Dept. seoonded by Leonard that the matter be referred to Buok, Brashear and Hickman to work out a policy of enforcement. AYES: NOES: Flanagan, Jones, Leonard, Gemmill, Gibbs None Motion carried Mayor Gibbs presented a plaque to Roy Tpomas who had retired after thirty four years of faithful service with the City. Resolution No. 1070 (Debt Limit-Street Improvement) was pre- Reso .. sented by the City Attorney. It was moved by Leonard and seoonded by 1070 Jones to adopt Resolution No. 1070. Mayor Gibbs read and presented a oopy of a letter sent to the Seoretary of the Navy commending Lcdr. William Gentry for servioes rendered to the community. Mr. Brashear reoo~ended that a request for an adjustment on the .pier lease fees be deferred and advertise for bids. Af.ter some disoussion the matter was referred baok to Mr. Brashear and Mr. Buck. Mr. Brashear announoed that the new Polioe Chief would report for duty August 8th. Mr.. Brashear also reported that diffioulties with the north- west storm drain pump has been correoted by the City Engineer. , 1 He also announoed that the new telephone system for the City Hall would go into effect Friday, August Sth. Mr. Brashear requasted a meeting to discuss the budget. Mr. Jones reported a meeting with the Coastal Freeway Committee. Mr. Leonard inquired about the removal of sand from the San Gabriel River. Mr. Brashear stated that his requests for removal were' not oomplete at t~is date. . Mayor Gibbs asked about the possibility of reserving the sun room for special occasions. It was moved by Gemmill and seconded by Jones that the City Administrator be. authorized to aocept reservations upon proper notioe. Mayor Gibbs stated that she had received e petition from residents of Twelfth Street regarding excessive speed on the street.
