The meeting was called to order with the salute to the Flag. Present: Mayor Shufelt Councilmen: Bowen, Lawhead, Leonard, Webster -Absent: It None " The minutes of the regular meeting of January 5, 1954 were read and approved on the Mayor's motion. COMMUNICATIONS: Letter from the Mayor of the City of Turlock, Calif- Invocat- ornia, suggesting having invocation at the opening of all ions Council council meetings, received and filed. Meetin~s . Statement from the West Orange County Water Survey Committee, requesting that funds remaining be transferred to Or. Co. Water the new West Orange County Water Board. It was moved by Board Leonard and seconded by Bowen that the City Attorney be instruc- ted to bring in such a resolution. AYES: f NOES: Bowen, Lawhead, Leonard, Webster, Shufelt Nooe Motion carried. Letter of thanks from the AMerioan Legion Auxiliary Legion Christmas Basket Committee for the use of a City truck to Au. deliver the baskets, was received and filed. . AnnounceMent of the Orange County League of Cities of the next regular meeting to be held January 28th at Sam~ Seafood Spa. Received and filed. Recommendation of the Seal Beach City Planning Commission that the request of Martin Toggweiler for a change of varience to permit construction of a motel on Or. Co. Leall;ue Plan. Comm. lots 47-49-51-53-55, Block 213 be granted. It w~s moved by Webster and seconded by Bowen ~hat the reoommendation be approved. It was moved by Leonard and seconded by Bowen that the City Officers reports be received and filed. It was moved by Webster and seconded by Lawhead that the de- mands be allowed and warrants draNn on the Treasury for the same. AYES: NOES: Bowen. I Resolution No. 827 ( Increasing salary of heavy equipment operator) It was moved by Leonard and seconded by Bowen that Resolution No. 827 be adopted. It was moved by Bowen and seconded by Leonard that Resolution No. 828 be adopted. The date to be February 19, 1954 at 8:00 P.M. It was moved by Bowen a nd seconded by Webster that legal notices of the tax lots sale be made in the Long Beach Press-Telegram and the Santa Ana Register. I AYES: NOES: Bowen, Lawhead. Ordinance No. 445 (Boat storage in designated areas) It was moved by Bowen and seconded by Lawhead that Ordinance No. 445 be deemed as having had its first reading and be passed to the second reading. Harry ~ogan submitted bids of the Long Beach Metal- craft Co., and ~he Crager Iron Works on the proposed fire- escapes for the auditorium. It was moved by Webster and seconded by Bowen that the City Clerk be instru~ted to ad- . I vertise for sealed bids for the delivery and erection of two fire-escapes. " " I 7 It was moved by Bowen and seconded by Webster that the lilayor and City Clerk be authorized to sign the annual contracts with the Standard Oil Co., for Gasoltne Gas Contract and Kerosene. The condition of the alley between 7th and 8th Streets, n~rth of Electric Avenue was brought to the att- ention of the City Council. It was agreed that following the rainy season the s i tua tion would be taken care of or as soon as possible. Mayor Shufelt reported on the beach erosion situ- Erosion Alley Repairs I ation to date and the correspondence he had received. It was agreed that Mayor Shufelt should confer with Willis Warner, ~hairman of the Orange County Board of SupervisorS' relative to County participation. The Mayor also reported that Capt. John McKinney had represented the City at two oil hearings, and of the program he wishes to present to all interested cities and organizations. The program having been previously approved, the request of of the Mayor to send out copies of this prog- ram to all cities and organizations was granted. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned on the Mayorls motion.
