The meeting was called to order. with the salut~ to the Flag. In the absence of a Member of the Seal Beach Mini- I sterial Association, no inv.ocation was given. Present: Mayor Clark Councilmen: Calvo, Flanagan, Leonard, Lawhead Absent: II II None The minutes of the regular meeting of May 18, 1954. were road and approved on the Mayors motion. Foster and Kleiser Company, requesting permission to erect a billboard at Bay Blvd. and Coast Highway on the Navy property, and to add to their existing board on Coast Highway, west of the lumber yard. It was moved by Lawhead and seconded by Calvo to grant the one on Bay Blvd. and Coast Highway, but to deny the one on Coast Highway, west. Naval Amm~nition & Net Depot requesting per- mission to erect traffic signals at Bolsa Avenue and Bay Blvd. It was moved by Leonard and seconded by Calvo to grant the request and that the signals should remain the property of the U. I Letter frOM Brock's Drug Center applying for per~iss- ion to sell firework~ in the drug store was received and filed as provided in Ordinance No. 421. Letter and check for $100.00 from Westmorelands Market for license to sell fireworks. It was moved by Lawhead and seconded by Calvo to grant the license as provided in Ord. No. 421. No. 451 Letter from the Seal Beach Athletic Association re- questing installation of water lines to the ball park and for services of the Youth Director at the Park. After a lengthly discussion relative to liability etc., it was moved by Lawhead and seconded by Calvo to provide only the water lines as re- quested. AYES: NOES: Calvo, Flanagan, Leonard, LaWhead, Clark None Motion carried. Letter from Mrs. Gladys Drent, requesting alley repairs was referred to Mr. Logan. Reports of the Police, Building, Water .nd Tax Depart- ments for the month of May were presented. Demands numbering 1844/1. to 1933 inclt.1S i ve , totaling $8175.13 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented. Ordinance No. 451 (An ordinance to prevent damage to . city properties), was presented for its second reading. It was I . moved by Leonard and seconded by Calvo that Ordinance No. 451 be deemed as having had its second reading and be passed for adoption. No. 841 1 I' I Resolution No. 841 ( A resolution to share Highway lighting maintenance costs with the State Highway Department). Letter from the Orange County July 4th Parade and Celebration Committee was referred to the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce. 41 Reso. 841 4th. July Parade Bids for furnishing and installing accoustical Sound materials for sound-proofing purposes in the City Hall we~e Proof. presented. It was moved by Calvo and seconded by Lawhead to accept the bid dated May 26, 1954 of the Harold E. Shugart Co., Los Angeles, California in the amount of $1037.00 as proposed. In the matter of fire insurance for the pier, Mayor Clark appointed Leonard and Flanagan as a committee to study bids presented. It was moved by Calvo and seconded by Lawhead to allow the Committee to accept the best coverage a nd bid. AYES: NOES: Calvo, Flanagan, Leonard, Lawhead, Clark None Motion carried. It was moved by Calvo and seconded by Flanagan to allocate not to exceed $50.00 per councilman to attend the Mayors and Councilmen Institute at Santa Barbara, June 3rd and 4th. Retired, "~ expressed his appreciation and commendation to the Police Department for apprehending house-breakers who entered his home. It was moved by Leonard and seconded by Flanagan to adjourn. Announcement of the regular meeting of the Orange County League of Cities, June 24, 1954, Costa Mesa, was received and filed. Request of Mr. and Mrs. Cirvice, Seal Beach Variety, to sell Fireworks. It was moved by Leonard and seconded by Calvo that although the request was filed after June 1st. that the permission be granted under Ordinance No. 421. Request of the Seal Beach Lions Club for permission to use the Sun Room and east parking lot in conjunction with their Annual Fish Fry, August 7, 1954.
