HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Min 1954-07-06 1 Seal Beach, California July 6, 1954 The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in regular session at 8:00 P.M. with Mayor Clark presiding. The meeting was called to order with the Pledge of Allegiance. The invocation was given by Rev. Donald E. Curry, Assembly of God Church. Present: Mayor Clark Councilmen: Calvo, Leonard Absent: II II Lawhead, Flanagan . Mayor Clark appointed Councilman Calvo to serve on the Finance Committee. The minutes of the regular meeting of June 15, 1954 and the regular adjourned meeting of June 22, 1954 were read and approved on the Mayorls motion. Announcement of the next regular meeting of the 47 Or. Co. Orange County League of Cities, to be held in Anaheim, July League Cities 8th, 1954 with trip to Hollywood for preview of Disneyland was received and filed. 1 Announcement of the 56th annual conference of the League of C,lifornia Cities, Los Angeles, October 17th to 20th, 1954 was received and filed. Calif League Cities . appreciation for efforts of the Council against gambling in Letter from the Long Beach Federated WCTU expressing Gamb- linp; Seal Beach was received and filed. Application of Mr. Vine Williams for a Palmistry license was received and filed. !. Application of Hobert B. Reports of the Police, Building, Water and Tax De- partment for the month of June were presented. It was moved by Leonard and seconded by Calvo to receive and file the City Officers reports. Water Bond Issue Ocean Ave. Brid!l;e Demands nembering 1 to 106 inclusive, totaling $11,442.66 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented. It was moved by Calvo and seconded by Leonard that the demands be allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasury for the same. AYES: 'NOESl ABSENT: Calvo, Leonard, Clark None Lawhead, Flanagan Motion carried. Resolution No. 843 (A resolution creating a lien on certain properties for the cost of weed a~atement) was present- ed by t he City Attorney. It was moved by Leonard and seconded by Calvo to adopt Resollltion No. 843. I AYES: NOES :' ABSEHT : Calvo, Leonard, Clark None Lawhead, Flanagan Motion carried. Letter from the Seal Beach Planning Commission recommending adoption of a proposed subdivision ordinance as submitted was received and filed. The Clerk was instructed to make six copies for the Councilmen to study. Harry Logan, City Administrator, presented a report of street projects by priority for-the fiscal year. It was .,- moved by Leonard and seconded by Calvo that Harry Logan be instructed to obtain estimates of costs of the three projects. I.> AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Calvo, Leonard, Clark None Lawhead, Flanagan Motion carried. Harry Logan presented five cop~es of the 1954-55 budget estimate to the City Councilmen. The covering letter was ordered received and filed. The City Attorney was instructed to write the Pacific Electric Railway, Chief Engineer, relative to obtaining a token lease on portions of their right-of-way for beautification purposes. It was reported that Harrison and Woolley'S preliminary report relative to the water bond issue election would be com- II pleted about July 22nd. Mr. Buck explained to the audience the purpose-of the report and the necessity of the bond election. The Council was asked if the removal of the Ocean Avenue bridge was definite in the plans for the Marina. Mayor Clark stated that the plans called for removal of the bridge. Councilman Leonard stated he believed that the citizens should protest the removal of the bridge which he believed would be for the best interests of the City. A general discussion followed with no definite action taken by the City Council." Milton Corcoran addressed the Council relative to the condition of the cross alleys north of Ocean Avenue. Mayor Clark referred the matter to the Streets and Alley Committee and stated that as soon as f&nds were available, 1 the alleys would be repaired. Mr. Buck explained that the recent amendments to the business license ordinance were subject to revision by the Council-and that penalties should not be invoked pend- ing such revision. It was moved by Leonard and seconded by Calvo to adjourn.
