HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Min 1954-09-21 Seal Beach, California September 21, 1954 The City Council 'of the City of Seal Beach met in regular session at 8:00 P.M. with Mayor Clark presiding. The meeting was called to order with the Pledge of allegiance. Presents Mayor ~lark Councilmen: Calvo, Flanagan, Leonard, Lawhead I II II None Absent: The minutes of the regular meeting of Sept. 7, 1954 and the regular adjourned meeting of Sept. 14, 1954 were read and approved on the Mayorls motion. Announcement of the meeting of the West Orange County Water Board to be held Sept. 27, 1954 at Huntington Beach was received and filed. Announcement of the regular September meeting of the Orange County League of Cities to be held September 23, 1954 69 W. Or. Co. Wtr Board Or. Co. L~ of Cities at Huntington Beach was received and filed. Letter from the Seal Beach Fire Department reqllesting Fire I special bond issue election to provide a t~tal of $56,000.00 for a new fire station and equipment was referred to the Police and Fire Committee. . Letter from Jack Lind, 1631 Seal Way, requesting im- provements against erosion and for the improvement and install- ation of sidewalks on the beach front was referred to the Beach, Park and Pier Committee. Letter from Ray N. Thomas, City Foreman, with present classifications and salary schedules attached, of Maintenance . Department personnel was received and filed for further study. . I AYES: NOES: Calvo, Flanagan, Leonard, Lawhead, Clark None Motion carried. Reports of the City Treasurer and City Clerk for the month of August were presented. It was moved by Leonard and seconded by Lawhead to receive and file the City Officers re ports. AYES: NOES: Calvo, Flanagan, Leonard, Lawhead, Clark . None Motion carried. Demands numbering 466 to 529 inclusive, totaling Dept. Bch. Eroslor City Emply': 70 'lame s Petit. Garbap;e Ins. Police car Erosion Equipt. Mayor Leave Pro-Tem Appt. Council Time $11,509.69 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented. It Was moved by Lawhead and seconded by Calvo that the demands be allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasury for the same. AYES: NOES: Calvo, Flanagan, Leonard, Lawhead, Clark, None Motion carried.' The City Clerk stated that as of this date he had been unable to certify the sufficiency of names on the supple- mental petition presented to him on Sept. 16, 1954 by w. L. I Robertson, proponent. Mayor Clark stated that heand the City Clerk had met with Mr. Kenneth Price, relative to our garbage contract, and that Mr. Price had accepted our reduction in price but did not favor the removal of the cancellation clause. However he agreed to think it over and advise the Mayor. In the matter of insurance the Clerk was instructed to advise the local agents of the expiration of a policy for the rolling stock and to ask for bids. The Main Street Garage submitted a bid for a 1954 . Hudson for the Police Department. It was moved by Leonard and seconded by Calvo that the Clerk advertise for bids for I a new police car. The Mayor stated he had prepared_a letter to be sent to the convention of the Shoreline Planning Association, request~n-; \ , ing they support our position relative to oil, be~cQ. preservation, .' royalties, etc., which met with the approval of the~Council. Mr. Lawhead stated there was certain equipment at the City Yard that belonged to the City of Long Beqch., Roy Thomas said the equipment had been returned and the matter had been taken care of to the satisfacti~n of both Cities. Mayor Clark stated that he wished a leave of absence for two weeks beginning Oct. 1, 1954 and that he recommended that Paul Calvo be appointed Mayor Pro-Tem. It was moved by Leonard and seconded by Flanagan that the leave be granted and that Paul Calvo be appointed Mayor, Pro-Tem. I AYES 1 NOES: Calvo, <"lanagan, Leonard, Lawhead, Clark None Motion carried. Mayor Clark announced that beginning with the Oct. 5, meeting the time for convening would be 7:30 P.M. It was moved by Calvo and seconded by Lawhead to adjourn.
