The City Engineer was instructed to make an analysis
of the Pier Concession agreement and annual payments, to
determine the advisability of returning to the flat fee basis.
The City Engineer was instructed to install cross-
walks and pedestrian crossing signs on Ocean Avenue where
deemed necessary.
It was moved by Leonard and seconded by Calvo to
adjourn.

The City Council of the City of Seal Beach Met in
regular session at 7:30 p.m. with May.or Clark presiding. The
meeting was c~lled to order with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mayor Clark announced that this was the time and
place as advertised for a public hearing on the improvement
of Seventh Street. There being no protests either oral or
in writing, the City Attorney presented Resolution No. 890

(Seventh Street Improvement). It was moved by Calvo and
seconded by Leonard to adopt Resolution No. 890.

Letter from the State Recreation Commission,
Sterling S. Winans, Director, reporting a recent survey of
the 10cal recreation needs and meetings with the loca~ re-
creation COMMittee was received and filed.
A newspaper in the form of a cOMMunication from
Zerina, 1619 Seal Way, offering her singing and danc ing ser-
vices to the cOMMunity was receivedand filed.
Letter from Dr. H. E. DeSadeleer by Dr. A. J. Nel~
son stating ,that Roy Thomas, General Foreman, was unable to do
any type of work until r.urther medical check-up has been made
was receivedand filed. Upon the recoMMendation of the City
Engineer, it was moved by Leonard and seconded by Calvo to
grant Roy Thomas one hundred (100) working days sick leave,
based on his many years of service.

James Stangeland, represehting Gerhardt Stangeland,
Beach Umbrella Concessionaire, addressed the City Council
stating the financial hardship of the present contrict.
After discussion it was moved by Leonard and s econCled by
-Calvo,to cancel the present contract and rewrite one for
$400.00 per year, payments to be made, $200.00 April 1st
and $200.00 _,July 1st each year.

Bud~et The Council agreed to meet informally Thurs-
day evening, July 7, 1955 to study and discuss the new budget.
New Position
The City Engineer suggested that a
new position-of Assistant General Foreman be created at $350.00
per month to take care of an emergency. It was moved by Calvo
and seconded by Leonard that the position of Assistant GeDer.a~
Foreman be created at $350.00 per month to be used only when
needed and that the person, now filling the position of General
ForeMan be paid accrued overtime as of July 1, 1955.
Pier Lease Ap:reement After hearing the report of
the City Engineer on this subject it was deoided to delay fur-
ther action until next meeting.
Street Sweepinp,. After hearing a few oomplaints
relative to days and hours of street sweeping the Matter was

referred to the City Engineer for recommendation.
Garbap:e and Trash Collection. The City Engineer
stated that he was preparing a tentative contract for the
City Council and City Attorney.to study Thursday evening.
Fire Rinp:s. Mr. Marron stated that 64 fire rings
had been placed on the beach between the Pier and Ei~hth St.
Subdivision. Mr. Marron stated that a permit had
been granted by the State for permission to lay sewer lines
under the State Htghway from the subdivision site to our pres-
ent sewer line.
Recreation COMMission. Mr. Robert Goohicoa, Chair-
Man. and Mrs. Edith De Sadeleer appeared before the Counci1
and presented a letter of recommendation to employ Miss June
Recreat.

State Recreation Commission. It was moved by Calvo and seconded
by Leonard that a two weeks notice, dated July 6, 1955, terminat-
ing,the services of Jack Croce, Youth Center Director, be dir-
ected and that he also be paid the earned two weeks vacation pay
and that the City Council accept the reCOMMendation of the
Recreation Commission.
