The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in
regular session at 7:30 p.m. with Mayor Clark presiding. The
'meeting was called to order with the Pledge of Allegiance.
The invocation was given by Rev. Donald E. Curry,
Assembly of God Church.

This being the time and place fixed for the canvass of I
the returns of the Special Election held on April 10, 1956, the
returns of said election ( and the absentee votes cast at said
election that have been received) were duly and regularly can-
vassed as provided by law.
It was moved by Leonard and seconded by Calvo that the
following Resolution No. 92J, declaring the result of said canvass
be adopted, and that it, together with the City Clerk's Statement.

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, DECLARING
THE RESULT OF THE CANVASS OF ELECTION
RETURNS OF ELECTION HELD IN SAID CITY ON
APRIL 10, 1956.
The City Council of the City ~f Seal Beach, Calif-
ornia, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DETERMINE A1~ ORDER as follows:
Section 1. That a special bond ~lection was duly
called and regularly held in said city on the 10th day of
April, 1956, at which election there was submitted to the
qualified voters of said city the following proposition, to wit:
BOND PROPOSITION: Shall the
City of Seal Beach incur a bonded
indebtedness in the principal
amount of $60,000 for the purpose
of the acquisition and construc-
tion by said city of a certain
municipal improvement, to wit:
a fire station building, including
the acquisition of all land, furni-
ture, furnishings and other property
necessary therefor. and the acquisition
of fire fighting equipment, including
a fire truck, apparatus, and equipment
necessary therefor?

vided by law, and'all absentee balfots received have been counted
and canvassed as provided by law.

At this point Mayor Clark called a five minute recess.

Upon reconvening Mayor Clark administered the oath of
office to City Clerk-Elect Frederick W. Hickman.
The newly elected and sworn Clerk then administered the
oath of office to Councilmen-Elect Joe Harold Tancre and Harry
Cleveland Ross, Jr. and City Treasurer-Elect James N. Scott.
After Mayor Clark stepped down, the City Clerk
announced that nominations for the office of Mayor would be
accepted. Councilman Clark nominated Councilman Paul Calvo
Mayor

and it was seconded by Councilman Flanagan. There being no

further nominations, Paul Calvo was elected Mayor by the follow-
ing vote.

Paul Calvo was seated as Mayor.
Outgoing Councilman Leonard and Lawhead addressed the
Council and audience, thanking them both for support during
their terms of office.

The minutes of the regular meeting of April 3rd and the
adjourned meeting of April 5th, 1956 were read and approved on
Mayor Calvo's motion.
Reports of the City Treasurer and City Clerk for the
month of March, 1956 were presented. It was moved by Clark and
seconded by Flanagan to receive and file the City Officers reports.

Engineer's Agenda
Weed Abatement. After costs and methods of lot clean-
ing were discussed, it was moved by Ross and seconded by Clark
that Roy Thomas be instructed to clean the lots by the plowing
method.

Sewer Plant. Mr. Marron reported that one Buda engine
had broken down and should either' be repaired or converted to
electrical equipment. Repairs estimated at $135.00 and con-
version at less than $1000.00. After considerable discussion
it was moved by Flanagan and seconded by Clark to convert to
electricity.

in favor of local organizations and businessmen.

Mrs. Jessie Jensen requested action on her letter of
August, 1955, relative to the abolishment of the office of City
Engineer. Mrs. Abata and Mrs. Nichols also entered the discuss-
ion. At the suggestion of Mayor Calyo, that the new councilmen
be given an opportunity to study the matter, the discussion
closed.
Newly elected Councilmen Tancre and Ross, City Clerk
Hickman and City Treasurer Soott, all thanked the voters for their
support in the recent election.

boundaries of the City of Seal Beach, California, and providing
penalties for the violation thereof, exempting therefrom the
land and territory within the Naval Ammunition and Net Depot,
and further exempting any terrItory annexed after January 1, 1956,
and repealing Ordinance No. 446, be adopted?".
