Calirornia September 4, 1956 The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in regular session at 7:30 p.m. with Mayor Calvo presiding. The meeting was called to order with the Pledge of Allegiance. Present: Mayor Calvo Councilmen: Tancre, Ross, Flanagan, Spencer Absent: " " None I The minutes of the regular meeting of August 21st and the regular adjourned meeting of August 30, 1956 were read and approved on the Mayor1s motion. Reports of the Building, Police, License. Water and Tax Departments for the month of August 1956 were presented. It was moved by Spencer and seconded by Tancre to receive and file the City Officers reports. AYES: NOES: Tancre, Hoss, Flanagan. Spencer. Calvo None Motion carried. Demands numbering 4271 to 4361 inclusive, totaling $9,834.86 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented. 306 street Dept. Taxi Cabs Oil Drill. Bolsa Chica Annex. Bolsa Chica Annex. City Eng. City Eng. City Eng. It was moved by Tancre and seconded by ~lanagan that the demands be allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasury for the same. Mr. Buck reported that he was working on the street alignment at Fifth and Bolsa and believed it could be worked out satisfactorly. Mr. Buck also reported that he had tried to contact the officials of the Diamond and Yellow Cab Companies relative to operating in the City, but that the persons he wished to talk to were out of town. I Mr'. Buck 1'urther reported that Signal Oil had assigned one of their attorneys to work with him in the oil drilling matter. On recommendation of the City Attorney it was moved by F'1anagan and seconded by Tancre to instruct the City Engineer to secure a list of the owners of the property involved in the Bolsa Chica Annexation as equalized on the last assessment roll. AYES: NOES: Tancre, Ross, Flanagan, Spencer, Calvo None Motion carried. I Letter from W. H. Beck, President; Westminister- Bolsa Chica Corporation, agreeing to join with and defend the City, and to pay all costs of such defense, in the event the City of Seal Beach is involved in any litigation in.regard to the legality of the Bolsa Chica.Annexation, was received and . filed. Mr. Buck was excused at 8:00 p.m. At this time the Council recessed to interview can- didates for the position of City Engineer. Upon reconvening, Mayor Calvo announced that it would be necessary to have an examination 1'or the position of City Engineer. It was moved by Ross and seconded by Spencer that the City Council request the Civil Service Board to make arrangements at the earliest possible time. I AYES: NOES: Tancre, Ross, Flanagan. It was Moved by Spencer and seconded by Tancre to retain John Toups as Consulting 8ngineer at $lOO.UO per month until such time as a permanent engineer is appointed. Storm drains or catch basins on ~lectric Ave. 2. Resurfacing Bolsa Avenue, west of bridge, plans about ready for bids. 3. Parking lots, resurfacing budgeted 4. Fifth street Extension-Edison Co. holding it up. 5. Twelfth street-Needs portions resurfaced. Mr. Ross stated that he had consulted with several people relative to the proposed marine committee for coastal development and that the committee should be discussed before actually setting up. I . Mr. D. M. C~llis reported by letter that he had not received word of a meeting of the Long Beach Marina Advisory Committee, so he had nothing to report. Letter of thanks from the Seal Beach Star Club for the cooperation of the City employees in their recent Annual Dinner and Country Store was received and filed.
