November 7, 1956.
The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in
regular session at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor Calvo presiding. The
meeting was called to order with the Pledge of Allegiance.

The minutes of the regular meeting of October 16.
1956 were read and approved after a correction relative to
the Recreation Commission.
Reports of the Police, Building, License, Water, Tax
and Community Center for the month of October. 1956 were present-
ed. It was moved by Tancre and seconded by Spencer to receive
and file the City Officers reports.

Motion carried.
Demands numbering 4566 to 4655 inclusive, totaling
$19,371.74 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented.
It was moved by Spencer and seconded by Tancre that the demands
be allowed and warrants: drawn on the i'reasury for t he same.

Resolution No. 942 (Vacating portion Bolsa Avenue)
was presented by the City Attorney. It was moved by Flanagan

Resolution No. 943 (Salary Incl'eases-Hecinding Reso.
No. 941) was presented by the City Attorney. It was moved by
Tancre and seconded by Spencer to adopt Resolution No. 943.

Upon the request of Valerie Sneed to employ two
life guards at $~.50 per hour for the weekly swimming pro-
gram, it was moved by Ross and seconded by Spencer to approve
the request as stated.

At the request of the City Tax Collector. it was
moved by Flanagan and seconded by Tancre to authorize the
City Attorney to prepare a legal notice of auction sale of
Lots 46-48, Block 107. Bay City Tract and Lot 17, Block C..

authorize the City Tax Collector to clear up three other tax
deeded lots which will also be returned to the tax roll.

Mr. Tancre introduced a troop of Girl Scout "Marinerslt
and their leader who were getting information on city government
as one of their projects.
It was moved by Spencer and seconded by Tancre to grant
a Taxi-cab License Franchise to the Diamond Cab Company as pre-
scribed under Ordinance No. 497.

Letter froM the Currie Engineering Company suggesting
changes in the Pumping Station at Electric and Main Streets
was referred to Mr. Trygg.
A minute order from the Orange County Board of Super-

visors acknowledging the Bolsa Chica Annexation was received
and filed.
The a pproval of rerouting the Greyhound Bus Line
through the City by the Company w.as received and filed.
A letter from Mr. and Mrs. Coddington, l690 Ocean
.
Avenue protesting the Bus Lines and the dusty condition of the
Pacific Electrio right-of-way was discussed at length. With the
approval of the Council, Mr. Trygg w.as instructed to bring in
estimates or cost to beautify the strip.
Reports of the Marine Advisory Committee were referred
to the Beach Committee of Ross and Tancre.

In reference to ammending the Electrical Code as it
applies to new building, it was dec ided to withhold the matter
for the present time.
Mr. Trygg gave a report on the progress of the sub-
division.
A~ter some discussion it was decided that the bar-
racade at Ocean and First street be moved to the West end of
Ocean Avenue and the City Attorney be instructed to bring in
an ammedned ordinance to permit installation of a boulevard

stop at this corner.
The City Clerk was instructed to contact the School
Board in regard to suggested appointments for members of the
Recreation Commission.
In regard to drainage problems in the City. it was
moved by Tancre and seconded by Ross to proceed as outlined
by Mr. Trygg.

authorize Mr. Trygg to advertise for bids for a new police car
and road roller.

the City Council has been advised by Mayor Calvo and has the
consent of the Council for him to do the engineering or survey
work on the Bolsa-Chica annexation in his private capacity.

The installation of sidewalks on the south side of
Ocean Avenue where needed was referred to Mr. Trygg and Mr.
Buck.

Mr. Trygg reported that he had met with the City
Auditor and City Tax Collector relative to the County Collect-
ion or Taxes. It was determined that the County assessed values
would not bring in sufficient tax money unless the tax rate
was increased. The Council decided to defer further action
for the present time.
Letter of thanks from the Long Beach Fire Department
for participation in the Boy'S Baseball League w.as received
and filed.
Letter from the Good Government Group relative to
good publicity in the Marina News was received and filed.

The Clerk to express the thanks of the CounCil to the paper.
Letter of application to reopen the Garden of Allah
was approved subject to Ordinance No. 47~, special police, etc.
Request of the Woman's Club for use of the Co~~unity
Center building for arts and crafts: was ,delayed subject to days
to be used as another group has a prior request.
Hequest of the Fire Department to install a new door
in the Fire Station to permit new equipment to enter was approved
and referred to the Purchasing Department.
At this time it was moved by Tancre and seconded by
spencer to approve demand No. 4655 for $2p752.36 as tQe initial
payment on delivery of the ne~fire equipment to be delivered
November 8. 1956.

service in the City was referred to the License Department.
Mrs. Abata1s letter in reference to a donation of a
piano for the Community Center by the Democratic Club was

Mayor be appointed a Director to Orange County Sanitation District
No.3.
