The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in
regular adjourned session at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor Calvo pre-
siding. The meeting was called to order wi~h the Pledge of
Allegiance.

The minutes of the regular meeting of March 4th and
the adjourned meeting of March 6, 1958 were read and approved
on the Mayor's, motion.
Reports of the City Clerk and City Treasurer for
the month of February, 1958 were presented. It was moved by
Ross and seconded by Spencer to receive and file the City
Officers reports.

Demands, payroll No. 252 to 300 inclusive and demands,
regular No. 71.54 to 7187 inclusive, totaling $15, 431.36 as
approved by the Finanoe Committee were presented. It was moved
by Flanagan and seconded by hoss that the demands be allowed
and warrants drawn on the Treasury for the same.

Mr. Lowery of the engineering firM of Lowery-Overmyer
Associates Inc., explained in "detaiL a proposed tentative plan
to alleviate the immediate drainage problem. After discussion
it was decided to apply this information to our present plans.

Mayor Calvo and City Attorney Buck reported appearing
before the Senate Finance Committee in Sacramento on March 18th
in regard to an amendment to the Governor1s budget for $190,000
to assist in beach erosion remedial plans for the City which

resulted in acceptance of the amendment which was introduoed
by Senator John Murdy, Jr. of Orange County.
After hearing proposed costs of $150.00 to clean
and repair the stove in the auditorium ~tohen, the matter was
referred to the ,Building Committee to investigate the possible
purchase of a new or used stove.

was moved by Ross and seconded by Spencer to employ Mr.
Burgueno, Long B~ach to plant 50 trees as offered at a complete
price of $900.00.

Request from the Civil Service Board for an opinion
of the City Attorney relative to certain sections of Ordinance
No. 476 was received and filed.
Appraisal estimates of city property at 8th Street
and Ocean Avenue by Seal Beach Realty and Moore Realty were
received and filed.
Request of W. S. Knighton, Building Supt., for

adoption of the 1958 Edition of the Uniform Building Code,
Volume One, was l'eferred to the City Attorney.
Letter of request to amend license code in respect
to BuildiBg, Plumbing and Electrical contractors was tabled
for further discussion and study.
It was decided that weed abatement wo~ld be done
this year by the mowing prooess.

-In regard to a newly proposed purchasing ordinance,
further study needed.
After a report of vandalism, it was ordered that
until further notice the rest rooms under' the pier would be
closed each day from sunset until 7:00 A.M.
Mr. Ross introduced Mr. Ernest caldwell, Civil
Engineer. Mayor Calvo reviewed Mr. Caldwell's qualifications.

be empl~yed as Director of rublic Wo~ks'~nd Services at $770.00
per month effective April l, 1958

Letter from the Churoh of Christ of Seal Beach for
permission to use the Council Chambers for Sunday servicea was
discussed. It was deoided to permit the use of the auditorium
for services subject to the schedule under control of the Chief
of Police.
Request of John Nescher to hold a Pre-Easter Carnival
for small children on Central Avenue, April 5th from 9:00;A.M.
to 3:00 P.M. was approved.
Announcement of general membership meeting of the
Orange County Coast Association, March 25th, Huntington Beach
was received and filed.

Announcement of monthly meeting of the Orange County
League of Ci ties" La Habra, March 27th was reoeived and filed.
Request of Mr. Ross in behalf of the Chamber of
Commerce for use of City park, stand and Police support in the
forthcoming Beauty Parade was approved.
Mr. Roas read a copy of the City of Riverside ordinanoe

relative to drainage as it oonoerns new building permits for
living ~ooupancy dwellings was discussed at length. Ordinance
No. 517 (Amending Building Code) was read by the City Attorney.

No. 517 be deemed as having had its first r'eading and be passed
to the second reading.
