HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Min 1951-03-05 118 Seal Beach, California March 5, 1951 The City Council of th~ City of Seal Beach met in regular session at 7:30 P. M. with Mayor Shufelt presiding. Meeting was called to order with salute to the Flag. Absent: Mayor Shufelt Councilmen" Leonard, Bowers Counc~l~en, Webster, Granger I Present: The minutes of regular meeting of February 19, 1951 were read and approved on Mayor's motion. OOMMUNICATIONS: Letter of Veterans of Foreign Wars, requesting hearing in Veterans conjunction with American Legion & Council on proposal to lease rParking the Beach Parking Lot received and filed. Lot Letter of Arthur Perks, Defense Chairman, making request for office sp~ce with desk and filing cabinet. It was moved Defense by Leonard, second by Bowers that Mayor and Purchasing Agent pur- Filing chase suitable filing cabinet; and spaoe in Council Chambers be cabinet used as Civilian Defense quarters. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Leonard, Bowers, Shufelt None Webster, Granger 1 Motion carried Letter of Robert Buck, stating that he had been r~oalled to' Buck active duty in the Armed Forces, therefore ~equ~st1~g military leave Resigns of, absence. It was moved by Bowers, second by Leonard'that re- qu~st" be gran~ed. AYES: NOES: ABSEIlT: Leonard, Bowers,Shufelt None Webster, Granger Motion carried Letter of Norman Granger resigning as member of the Seal Granger Beach City Council, due to new business connections that Resigns necessitated his locating elsewhere. It was moved by Leonard second by Bowers that resignation be accepted. AYES: NOES: AB8EI~T : Leonard, Bowers, Shufelt None Webster, GrangF.lr I" Motion oarried Reports for the month of February of City Judge, Police Chief, Building, Water, Tax and Purchasing Agent were read. It was moved by Bowers, second by Leonard that reports be received and filed. Motion oarried . . '.~~... 119 Demands numbering 1295 to 1)30 inclusive amounting to $7,496.g4 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented. It was "moved by Bowers, second by Leonard that bills be allowed, and warrants drawn on the Treasury for same. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Leonard, Bowers, Shufelt None Webster Motion carried I ^ Clerk informed the Council that representative of Voglesong Meter-Company had called inquIring as to what permisSion was Park necessary to be obtained to remove parking meter metal posts Met ersf rom the Parking lot. It was moved by Bowers, second by Lebnard Removatbat Voglesong Company furnish written release relieving the City from all liability and future responsibility on the transaction, and contractor removing said posts be required to fill all holes caused by the removal and leave premises in a clean and orderly condition. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Leonard, Bowers, Shufelt None Webster Motion carried Engineer Woolley made a report on proposed usage of City I Water & Water Supply by Department of Water & Power. It was moved by Power Bowers, second by Leonard that a tenative proposal be submitted City Water ~o the applicant on the proposal. AYES: NOES: ABSE~T: Leonard, Bowers, Shufelt None Webster Motion cBTried Reso. to the operation of jet-propelled planes in practioe flights 729 from the Los Alamitos Air Base. It was moved by Leonard, Resolution No. 729 was presented; objections by the City second by Bowers that Resolution No. 729 be adopted, and copies of said resolution be forwarded to various Governmental agencies and Civic bodies. League 15% Dues Motion carried It was moved by Leonard, second by Bowers that an additonal of annual dues be allowed California League of Cities for added Civilian Expense Administration. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Leonard; Bowers, Shufelt None Webster Motion carried ~ .' 120 It was moved by Bowers, second by Leonard that a full Employees coverage bond underwritten by the United States Fidelity & , ' to the Council for adoption. Land Use written or oral. Bond New City Map N.Roy Plan Comm. Ord. Guaranty Company on City employees at an annual premium of $2)9.44 be approved. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Leonard, Bowers, Shufelt None Webster Motion carried Letter of Norman Roy making proposal for preparing a new Sp,al Beach Land Availability Map. After considerable discussion and explanation, it was moved by Bowers second by Leonard that Mr. Roy proceed with work as outlined in ~etter, said Map to be mounted on roller fram9, and to be priced at $)00.00 complete. I AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Leonard, Bowers, Shufelt None Webster Motion carried It was moved by Bowers, second by Leonard that meeting , be adjourned to Wednesday, March 14th at 7:00 P.M. Present: Mayor Shufelt Councilmen, Webster, Leonard Councilman, Bowers I Absent: The first order of business was the hearing of objection on, the Planning CommissiQn's New, Land Use .Ordinance"recommended No comments were received either It was moved by Webster, second by Leonard that Planning Commission's recommendation be approved, and grdinance referred to the City Attorney for review.
