Meeting was called to order,with Salute to the Flag. I Present: Mayor Shufelt Councilmen, Webst~~, Leonard, Bowen Councilman, Bowers Absent: The minutes of regular meeting of July 2 were read and approved on Mayor's motion. Letter of the Junior Womens Club asking Council's Jr.WOll1en Icecream permission to hold ice cream social near entrance to the pier. It was moved by Webster, second by Bowen that request be denied on account of property deed restrictions and City Attorney to Pier wri te the Club explaining the reason for refusal. Letter from the Fire Department announcing the Knighton - election of W. S. Knighton as Fire Chief for the next fiscal I:l. I Fire of the Fire Chief for last yea:r and a report year, of alarms Chief responded to and amount of damage caused by fires. It was moved by Leonard, second by Webster that the election of W. S. Knighton as Fire Chief be approved. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Webster, Leonard, Bowen, Shufelt None Bowers Motion carried. ~ Paterson Taxicab 1 Weed Report I Ord. No. 409 I Telephone County Sheriff 153 Application of A. G. Paterson stating he was taking over"business of Fowler Brothers - Red Top Cab Company and asking for business license and Certificate of Public Con- venience and Necessity. It was moved by ~ebster, second by Leonard that application be approved, and license issued together with said Certificate. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Webster, Leonard, Bowen, Shufelt None Bowers Motion carried. Report for the month of June of City Treasurer and Clerk were read. lt was moved by Webster, second by Leonard that reports be received and filed. Motion carried. Street Superintendent read his report and cost of Weed Abatement. Resolution No. 744 was then introduced con- firming report of Street Superintendent and placing lien on property affected for cost of said weed abatement. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Webster, Leonard, Bowen, Shufelt None Bowers Motion carried. Ordinance No. 409 was presented and read - Illegal Parking Regulations. It was moved by Webster, second by Bowen that Ordinance No. 409 be adopted as an emergency measure. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Webster, Leonard, Bowen, Shufelt None Bowers Motion carried. Demands numbering 80 to 149 inclusive, amounting to $7,244.69 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented. It was moved by Webster, second by Leonard that bills be allowed . . , and warrants drawn on the Treasury for same. AYES: " NOES: ABSENT: Webster, Leonard, Bowen, Shufelt None Bowers . , Motion carried. It was moved by Webster, second by Bowen that a direct telephone line connect~ng the Police Department with Santa Ana Sheriff's office be installed -,the County assuming cost up to and including $100.00 per month - the-City of Seal Beach to ~ay any excess above $100.00 AYES: Webster, Leonard, Bowen, Shufelt NOES: None ABSENT: Bowers Motion carried. 154 II A" Frame Bolsa Bridge C of C Dance It was moved by Leonard, second by Webster that an "A" Frame be purchased at a cost not to exceed $200.00. Same to be installed on a City flat-bed truck. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Webster, Leonard, Bowen, Shufelt None Bowers Motion carried. I Maintenance Foreman called Councils' attention to the poor condition of the bridge crossing the San Gabriel River at Bolsa Avenue. City Attorney directed to contact Mr. Vickers, City Manager of Long Beach, stating City was willing to cooperate with Long Beach on expense of necessary repairs.
