I Seal Beach, California M"arch 17, 1952 The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in regular session ~t 7:30 P. M. and was called to order by Mayor Shufelt with salute to the Flag. Present: Mayor Shufelt Councilmen, Bowen, Lawhead, Leonard, Webster Absent: C ounc i Imen , None The minutes of regular meeting of March 3 were read and after addition of date of August 1, 1952 for payment of land ac- quired for Sewer Plant expansion, minutes were approved on Mayor1s motion. Petition protesting amnstruction of building for cabinet shop on lot 61, Block 212 at 13th Street and Highway 101 was pre- sented. After considerable discussion, matter was referred to City Attorney for legal opinion on zoning to be rendered at ne~regular meeting. It was moved by Webster, second by Bowen that no more building permits be issued for Commercial structures until such time as opinion was given by the City Attorney on the present cabinet shop controversy~ AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Bowen, Lawhead, Leonard, Webster, Shufelt None None Motion carried. Ordinance No. 420 was presented and read, providing ror licensing or Cares with dancing. Agreement continuing the Beach Umbrella concession be- tween the Clty and Gerhardt Stangeland rrom April 1st, 1952 and ending March 31, 1956 was presented and read by City Attorney. It was moved by Bowen, second by Leonard that the Mayor be authorized to sign said agreement on behalf of the City. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Bowen, Lawhead, Leonard, Webster,. Shufelt None None Motion carried. Mayor Shufelt announced receipt of letter from Captain Sturgess or the Ammunition & Net Depot. Also encouraging news from Washington pertaining to our beach erosion 'problem. It was moved by Webster, second by Leonard that two or each Aerial photographs be purchased showing beach before and after I the recent erosion occured. COMM'JtTICATIONS: Letter of Sea Scouts asking permission and business license to Sea Scout's sell fire wood on the beach. It was moved by Leonard, second by Fire Wood Webster that permit be granted and license fee waived. AYES: Webster, Leonard, Lawhead, Bowen, Shufelt NeES: ABSENT: None None ~iotion carried. Legion Awt Girl I State - Letter of American Legion Auxiliary asking Council for an , appropriation to help defray expense.of sending one Girl to Girl's State, Sacramento. It was m~ved by Bowen, second by Lawhead that request be denied and the Auxiliary informed of the ruling made by a former City Attorney on the matter of donations. Motion carried. Letter of J. H. McGaugh, School Superintendent, asking cancel- School Taxes lation of City Taxes against property recently acquired for school purposes. Referred to City Attorney.
