" Seal Beach, California June 16, 1952 The City Counoil of the City of Seal Beaoh met in regular session at 8:00 P.M. with Mayor Shufelt presiding. Meeting was called to order with salute to the Flag. Present: Mayor Shufelt Counc&lmen: Webster, Leonard, Lawhead, Counoilmen: None Bowel- Absent: The minutes of regular meeting of June 2nd were read and approved on Mayor's motion. COMMUNICATION: Letter of J.E. Brockman asking permission to place a waste paper receptable in front of his store, same to be fastened to a post by chain. It was moved by Leonard, second by Bowen that request be granted. Motion carried. Minute memo of the Board of Supervisors regarding City's request for portion of County Gas Tax fund. Received and Filed. Letter of W.H. Davidson and his neighbors calling atten-I tion to accumulation of debris on the beach fronting their prop- erties. Referred to the Maintenance Department for attention. Letter of Norman Kellogg calling attention to the subject of new proposed island drilling in the tidelands in the vicinity of Seal Beach. It was moved by Leonard, second by Bowen that ehe 9ity Attorney investigate the problem of the city ac- quiring title to the tidelands witqin the City Boundry, also de- termining of the mean high tide boundry. Report for the month of May of City Treasurer and Clerk was presented. It was moved by Leonard, second by Bowen that reports be Received and Filed. Motion carried. It was moved by Bowen, second by Lawhead that the I Counc~l meet Monday July 7th at 7:00 P.M. as a Board ot Equal- ization to consider and equalize the tax roll. Motion carried It was moved by Leonard, second by Webster that the City carry lOO/300 thousand public liability and 5000.00 prop- erty damage insurance on the beach parktng lot. Shufelt None None. l<totion carried. Ordinance No. 424 was presented. Prohibiting Beach- combing. It was moved by Bowen, second by Lawhead to waive the reading of Ordinance No. 424 Motion carried. It was moved by Bowen, second by Lawhead that Ord- inance No. 424 be deemed as having had its second and final reading and be adopted. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Webster, Leonard, Lawhead, Bowen, Shufelt None None Motion carried. Ordinance No. 426 - Prohibiting parking of automo- biles on private property, was presented and read in full. It was moved by Leonard, second by Bowen to send Ordinance No. 426 to its 2nd and final reading and adoptdog. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Webster, Leonard, Lawhead, Bowen, Shurelt None None Motion oarried. City Attorney reported he had received no conformation from Richfield Oil Qo. on City's purchase of beach lots. It was moved by Leonard, second by Bowen that company be notified that they be given until July 1 to approve the transaction. Mayor Shufelt reported receiving conformation from Senator Knowland of an appropriation for the purpose of bea~h erosion releif. Mayor Shufelt re-appointed C.W. Sheperd and R.L. Poindexter as members of the Planning COlDlJlission. It was moved by Bowen, second by Leonard that the Maintenence foreman be authorized xo rent a carry-all & tractor at a cost of $2,000.00 for a peorid of 30 days for the purpose of placing beach sand in sections threatened with further erosion. It was moved by Leonard, second by Bowen that the salary of the employee cleaning the beach, be increased et.'- ective now to $300.00 per month until adoption of the new budget..
