M. and was called to order by Mayor . Shufelt with salute to the Flag. Present: Mayor Shufelt Councilmen: Webster, Leonard, Lawhead, Bowen Absent: " " None 1 '-. The minutes of regular meeting of September 15th were re~d and approved on Mayor's motion. '- --" COMMUNICA TIONS: Letter of Frank L. Bowman informing Council as to the progress being made on tax deeded lots. Received and Filed. Letter of Pacific Electric Railway stating that they were abandoning electric operations and requesting any fixtures the City may have on their poles be removed. Referred to City Atty. Petitions of r~sidents residing east of lOth Street and north of Electric Avenue, suggesting measures for traffic im- provements on those streets that would safeguard the lives of children who accidentlY runs iqto streets. while at play. Refer- red to Police Chief and Council Committee to investigate and re- port back at next meeting. Reports for the month of September of Police Chief, City Judge, Water, Tax and Building departments were read. It was moved by Leonard, second by Lawhead that reports be re~eived .1 '. Demands numbering 511 to 645 inclusive and No. 492 held over from last meeting amounting to $l8,,062.65 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented. It was moved by Webster second by Bowen that bills be allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasury f'or same. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Webster, Leonard, Lawhead, Bowen, Shufelt None None Motion carried. .-/ City Attorney Williams read requests made by attorneys of' two separate clients for redemption of' properties being pro- cessed by Attorney Bowman to secure title for the City on acoount of being tax delinquent. City Attorney read proposal by the Los Angeles Flood ContrQl engineer f'or removal of sand from the San Gabriel River, to points on the City beaoh. Councilmen Leonard and Lawhead agreed to attend a meeting with them October 8th to di~ouss the matter. Attorney Williams reported on progress of' suits f'iled against the Monterey Oil Co., and read his legal opinion that the Airport Club had not violated any City Ordinance by changes in the ownership. Resolution No. 781 was introduced, protesting the Board of Supervisors proposed enactment of' a state wide 4% sales tax. , It was moved by Webster, second by Bowen that Resolution No. 78l be adopted. AYES: NOES I ABSENT: Webster, Leonard, Lawhead, Bowen, Shufelt None None Motion carried. It was moved by Webster, second by Bowen that the City Attorney prepare resolutions in memory of Louis Jaeckel and C. A. Miller. __' The next order of' business was the canvassing of pre- cinct results of the Special Municipal Election of October 2, and counting the absent voter ballots. The result of ballots cast together with the absent votes oounted are contained in the Clerk's Statement of' Results which are a part of the minutes of' this meet- ing. Resolution No. 782 was presented, declaring official results 2~O Reso. 782 of said election. It was moved by Webster, second by Leonard that Resolution No. 782 be adopted. MULCAHY, City Clerk of the City of Seal Beach, California, DO HEREBY CERTIFY AND DECLARE, that at a meeting held on October 7, 1952, the City Council of said City canvassed the retllI'nS of the Special Municipal Election held' in said City, October 2, 1952, and declared official results of the election. The total number of votes cast were 1478 plus ~2 absent vote~. That the propositions voted upon at said election are as follows: PROPOSITION NO. 1 An Initiative Ordinance of the voters of the City of Seal Beach, California~ PROPOSITION NO. 2 An Initiative Ordinance of the City Council of the City of Seal Beach, California.
