Meeting wa~ called to order with salute to the Flag. Present: Mayor Shufelt Councilmen: Bowen, Lawhead, Leonard, Webster Absent: " None " The minutes of regular meeting of December 15th were read and approved on Mayor'S motion. COMMUNICATIONS: Letter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Humerich, l29 lOth Street requesting the removal of two palm trees from in front of their property. Referred to Maintenance Department for attention. Letter of Charles Sprouse, Secretary City Employees As.n. , thanking Counoil for Christmas and New Years holidays. Received, and 'fUed.. Report for the month of December of Police Chief, City Judge, Tax, Water and Building Departments were read. It was moved by Leonard, second by Webster that reports be received and filed. Motion oarried. Resolution No. 787 was presented, approving per diem wage scale for Pier Lighting contract. It was moved by Leonard, second by Lawhead that Resolution No. 787 be adopted. Motion carried. Resolution No. 788, directing Clerk to advertise for bids on pie~ lighting job. It was moved by Webster, second by Bowen that Resolution No. 788 be adopted. \. Motion carried. ' Resolution No.789 was presented in memory of John F, Burkhart. It was moved by Bowen, second by Lawhead that Resolution No. 789 be adopted. Motion carried. Resolution No. 790 was presented. Protesting to Board of Engineers for Rivers and Harbors, removal of Ocean Avenue bridge. It was moved by Leonard, second by Webster that Resolution No. 790 be adopted. 2G4. Reso. 791 Brown Polan. It was moved by Lawhead, second by Bowen that Resolution No. 79l be adopted. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Bowen, Lawhead, Leonard) Webster, Shufelt None None Motion oarried. Demands numbering 1024 to 1116 inclusive, amounting to $32,813.37 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented. It was moved by Bowen, second by Webster that bills be approved I and warrants drawn on the Treasury for same. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Bowen, Lawhead, Leonard, Webster, Shufelt None None Motion carried. Mayor Shufelt named Buell Brown as a member of th~ Plan- ning Commission to fill the vacancy created by the death of John F. Burkhart. It was moved by Leonard, seoond by Webster that Mr. Brown be approved as a member of the Planning Commission. Motion carried. Letter of Robert Buok, a former City Attorney, who was called to active duty in the U. S. Navy, and granted a military leave of abs~ce by the Council. Now making an official request to be re-instated as City Attorney, was read. It was moved by Webster, second by Bowen that Robert Buck be named as City Att?r- ney as of Febrl19.ry 1, 1953 and Attorney Williams to continue as t,1.) 1 . ' the Citys' attorney on the Monterey Oil litigation and expected HelL'11an sub-division. :add other specific matters. It was moved by Leonard, second by Lawhead that a sum not in excess of $500.00 be advanced as expense of the City Council in making a trip to San Francisco to discuss with the Hellman interests, the matter ot the proposed sub-division. COMMUNICA TIONS: Notice of dinner meeting of the Orange County League of Cities to be held in Santa Ana on January 22. Received and filed. Letter of Mrs. Blanche Burkhart thanking Council for . adopting Resolution No. 789 in memory of her husband, John F. Burkhart. Reoeived and filed. Letter of Orange County Sooiety for Crippled Children requesting permission to sell paper Easter Lilies on street, March 21st. It was moved by Bowen, second by Lawhead that request be granted. Motion carried.
