Crumby, Assistant City Manager/Public Works SUBJECT: 2012 RUN SEAL BEACH GRANT FUNDS SUMMARY OF REQUEST: It is requested that the City Council receive the donation of 2012 grant funding from the Run Seal Beach Committee for the Community Services Department in the amount of $12,400, the Seal Beach Police Department in the amount of $8,000, and the Seal Beach Junior Lifeguard Program in the amount of$4,600. BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS: At the July 9, 2012 City Council meeting, the Run Seal Beach Committee announced the 65 recipients of the 2012 grants totaling a record $156,750 in donations to the community. Run Seal Beach hosts over 5,500 participants each year, and the Committee is a non-profit organization that raises funds and awareness for recreation programs, services, and facilities in the greater Seal Beach community. The Run Seal Beach non-profit organization has been in existence since 1999, although the organization has sponsored runs for 38 years. The Run Seal Beach event has continued to grow in attendance and contributions each year. The event is planned, managed, and executed 100% by volunteers. Community Services Department was awarded $12,400 to fund the following projects: Benches at Arbor Dog Park, real snow for the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting, benches for Heather Park tennis courts, resurface basketball courts, and add benches in Almond and Edison Parks. Seal Beach Police Department was awarded $8,000 to fund equipment for the "radKIDS" Children's Personal Safety and Empowerment Program. Seal Beach Junior Lifeguard Program was awarded $4,600 to fund scholarships for the 2012 Summer Junior Lifeguard Program. Agenda Item H ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: There is no Environmental Impact related to this item. LEGAL ANALYSIS: No legal analysis is required for this item. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Budget Modification No. 13-02-01 (Agenda Item "D") will adjust the FY 2012/13 budget and authorize appropriation of the funds. The increases in revenues and expenditures have no impact on the adopted Fiscal Year 2012/13 budget. RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council receive the 2012 grant funds from the Run Seal Beach Committee to the Community Services Department in the amount of$12,400, the Seal Beach Police Department in the amount of $8,000, and the Seal Beach Junior Lifeguard Program in the amount of$4,600.
