The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in
regular session in the City Auditorium at 8:00 P. M. Meeting
.was called to order by Mayor S.huf.elt with salute to t he Flag.

Letter of the United Veterans Council thanking the
City Officials for their co-operation on the Armed Forces Day
program. Received and filed.
Request of the United Veterans Council asking for the
use of City facilities for the r~morial Day program and extending
an invitation to be present and participate. It was moved by
Bowen, se~ond by Leonard that request be granted.
Motion carried.
Request of Mr~. MabeL M. Chapman for removal of palm
tree at l34 l)th Street. Referred to Mmntenence Department.
Hequest of juveniles. to play ball games on City vacant
lots north of the Library.

Letter of Frank L. Bowman, Attorney, stating that owners
of Lot l8, Block l08, Bay City Tract were willing to redeem same
by the payment of the $234.61 back taxes and penalties, together
with $l25.00 legal expenses incurred by the City in the tax suit..
It, was moved by Bowan, second by Leonard that the City accept
said sums and that City Assessor and Tax Collector restore said
property to the tax roll":and issue the usual tax redemption cer-
tificate.

A paper headed "Legal Notice" served on the Mayor

giving notice of intention to circulate a petition demanding
his recall from otfice was read in full by the Clerk. A like
notice is purported to have been served on all four (4) other
Council members.
Hequest of the American Legion supplicating application
made tQ,the City Council May l2th for permit and license to con-
duct legal games at No.5 Coast Highway was read in full. No

petitions were received or filed with the Clerk. Attorney Kepka
for the proponents and Van Pet ten for the opposition made short
addresses for and against the issue of said license and permit.
Captain J. R. McKinney of the Seal Beach Ammunition and Net Depot
spoke at some-length against the issuance of said permit. It was
moved by Leonard, second by Webster that request be denied.

Report of the Ci~y Treasurer and Clerk for the month of
April was presented. It was moved by Leonard, second by Bowen that
reports be received and filed.
Demands numbering No. 1808 to l865 amounting to $7,SOO.93
as approv-ed .by the. Finance Committee were presented.. It was moved
by Webster, second by Bowen that bills be allowed and warrants
drawn on the Treasurer for same.

Ordinance No. 432 was presented, making an adjustment in
water and meter charges for stand by uses for fire protection. It

was moved by Webster, second by Lawhead to waive the reading of
Ordinance No. 432.
Motion carried.
It was moved by Bowen, second by Leonard that Ordinance
No. 432 be deemed as having had its 1st reading and sent to its
2nd reading and adoption.

The Council made the announcement that Harry Logan be
appointed to the position of Building Inspector and named as execu-
tive officer at a salary of $4S0.00 a month starting June 1st. City
Attorney was directed to prepare a resol!ltlon fixing duties of
said offices.
Meeting was adjourned on M~orls motion.
