The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in regu- lar session at 8:00 P. M. with Mayor Shurelt presiding. Meeting , was called to order with salute to the Flag. Present: Mayor Shufelt Councilmen: Webster, Leonard, Lawhead, Bowen Absent: 11 " I None The minutes of regular meeting of May 19th were read and approve d on Mayor I s mo tion., cm4MUNICATIONS :' Written applications for the sale of safe and sane fire works were presented as follows: American Legion, 2 locations $200.~0, Lions Ulub, 2 locations, $200.00, A. J. Westmoreland 1 location, 414 Bolsa Avenue, $100.00 and the requests for sale of same trom their places o~ business namely, Brock's Drugs, 302 Main Street, Seal Drug, l41 Main Street and rtary Cirvice, 112 Main Street. It was moved by Leonard, second by Bowen that the permits be granted as requested. AYES: NOES: AYES: Webster, Leonard, Lawhead, Bowen, Shufelt None . None I Motion carried. Letter of the Seal Beach Woman I s C.lub thanking the COWlcll for their position in denying recent applic,\tion for the conducting of gambling games. Received and filed. Request of Charles R. Sprouse for his annual vaoation from June 8th to 22nd. It was moved by Webster, second by Bowen that request be granted. Motion carried. . Letter of F. J. Smith, inquiring if he should purchase the Airport Club property would the Council grant him a license to conduct games at said l~cation. Received and filed. . Report for the month of May of Police Chief, Tax, Water and Building Departments were read. It was moved by Bowen, second by Webster that reports be received and filed. Motion carried. I Letter of John W. Mulcahy resigning position as City Clerk and Ex-Officio Clerk of the City Council, effective as of June 30th.was read by the Clerk. Water Dis tric;!; I Reso. 807 I Ord. 433 Woolley Report Building Coasj; College 2"- t.J Clerk presented memorandrum of agreement from the Divi- sion of Highway for accumulation of 1953-54 Gas Tax fUnds. It was moved by Bowen, second by Lawhead that the Mayor and Clerk be directed and authorized to sign said agreement. AYES: NOES: ABS:&.'NT: Webster, Leonard, Lawhead, Bowen, Shufelt None None Motion carried. It was moved by Webster, second by Lawhead to recind the agreement approved March 22, 1953 with the Orange County Municipal Water District and to substitute a new agreement in two sections; AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Webster, Leonard. Lawhead, Bowen, Shufelt None None Motion carried. It was moved by Bowen. second by Lawhead that the i~yor and Clerk be authorized and directed to sign new agreements be- tween the City and Orange County Municipal Water District. AYES: Webster, Leonard, Lawhead. Bowen, Shufelt NOES: None ABSENT: None Motion carried. Demands numbering l866 to 1954 inclusive amo'mting to $ll,OSl.29 as approved by the Finance Committee were presented. It was moved by Lawhead, second by Bowen that bills be allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasury for same. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Webster, Leonard, LaWhead, Bowen, Shufelt None None Motion carried. Resolution No. 807 was presented, setting up office of City Administrator. It was moved by Webster, second by Leonard that Resolution No. 807 be adppted. Water Ordinance. Held over Wltil next meeting for further study. Mayor Shufelt reported that Engineer Woolley'S trip to Washin~ton, D. C. on our erosion problem would be ready for pre- sentation at next Council meeting~ It was'moved by Leonard, second by Bowen that the City accept from the Orange Coast College a bllilding secured by Council- man Lawhead at no cost to this City except its moving and recon- ~~~ ~GU ditioning. Said bllilding to be placed on City lots north of the . Library and to be used as a recreation center. AYES: NOES: AES~NT: Webster, Leonard, Lawhead, Bowen, Shufelt None None Motion carried.
