Meeting w,as called to order with salute to the Flag., Present: Mayor Pro tem Leonard COllncilmen: Bowen, Lawhead, Webster Absent: " Mayor Shufelt " Mayor Pro tem Leonard announced that the first order of bJsiness w.ould be the opening of bids as advertised for the sale of Pier Bonds series two. COMMUNICATIONS : Letter from the Shoreline Planning Association, announc- ing their annual c9nvention, kugust l4-l5, 1953 was received and filed. Notice of Hearing in the matter of the application of the Long Beach Motor Bus Co. reql.1esting increase in it's oash fares from 10~ to ll~, said hearing to be held Wednesday August 5, 1953, was received and filed. Letter of L. H. Eckel, ~ounty Auditor, stating the county shows Seal Beach has a county assessed valuation of , $8,620,230. The City Assessor compared that figure with tthe Seal Beach City assessed valuation of $10,444,855 or a difference of $1,824,625. The letter was received and filed. The Seal Beach Lions Club, O. H. "Kitll< Carson, Pres. submitted a letter stateing ~hat they had hung a street banner announcing their annual Fish Fry, August 22, at Main and Coast Highway instead of Main and Electric. and asked permission for it to remain in that place. Received and filed. Reports of the. Water. Tax.. Police and Building Depts. were presented. It was moved by Bowen. secorod by. Lawhead that the reports of the City Officers be received and filed. Leonard None Shufelt Hotion carried. 3C2 Councilman Bowen asked City Attorney Buck for his opinion in regard to the use of the public auditorium by groups who invited Audit. the public to attend and then barred the Press. Mr. Buck stated t~;t that in his opinion the Press should not be restricted if it w~s an' open public meeting. After some disCllssion it was announced by members of the United Citizens Committee that their motion to exclude the Press had been recinded.
