The City Gouncil of the City of Seal Beach met in regular session at 7:30 P.M. with Hayor ~hufelt presiding. Meeting was called to order with the salute to the Flag. Present: Mayor Shufelt Councilmen: Bowen, Lawhead. Leonard. Webster I Absent: " It None The minutes of the regular adjourned meeting of Oct. 22. 1953 were read and approved on the Mayors' motion. C OMJ1IDNICA TIONS: . Letter frOM the California Safety'Council. congratu- lating the City for its 1952 traffic fatality and accident record. and requesting Membership in the organization. Since no funds were budgeted for such. the letter was ordered received and filed. Letter and copy of the application from the Long Beach Motor Bus Co., to the Public Utilities Commission for an in- crease in fares was received and filed. Letter from the Sea~ Beach Planning Commission recom- mending the denial of the United Outdoor Advertising Co.. for I I ~ zone variamce to ~rmit erection of a billboard. Shufelt NOES: None Motion carried. Letter from the First Baptist Church of Seal Beach requesting permission to use the V.F.W. Building at 143 Main St. for their place of worship until a more suitable place can be obtained. It was moved by Bowen and seconded by Webster that the request be granted for a period of six months. subject to inspection by the Building and Fire Department. AYES: Bowen., Lawhead. Leonard. Webster. Shurelt NOES: None I Motion carried. Letter and map frOM Harry Logan. City Administrator. recommending a Boulevard stop sign at 12th and Ocean. It was moved by Bowen and seconded by Lawhead that the Street Depart- ment be instructed to install the sign as recommended. AYES: Bowen. Lawhead. Leonard. webster, Shufelt NOES: None Motion carried. Letter from the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce I inviting the City Council to participate in its meeting of Nov. 23rd. at 8:00 P.M. City Hall. to hear about and discuss Island Drilling with representatives of the Monterey Oil Co. Dana Williams. legal counsel in the Island Drilling matter was appointed to represent the City Council. Mr. Williams stated the City Council is doing everything possible to pro- tect the City against Island Drilling and would be glad to represent the City in a friendly discussion of the matter. Mr. Glenn Jones. President of the ~hamber of Commerce. gave a brief outline of the plan for a panel discllssion at the meeting. Youth Center Harry Logan presented a Districting Map of the south portion of the City of Seal Beach. After consider- able discussion ~y the Council. the City Attorney and the . . City Arlministrator. it was moved by Webster and seconded by Lawhead that the Map be approved as presented for zoning purposes. AYES: Bowen. Lawhead. Leonard. Webster. Shufelt NOES: None I Motion carried. It was moved by Bowen and seconded by Lawhead that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare necessary amendments to Ord. No. 406,': AYES: Bowen. Lawhead. It was moved by Bowen and seconded by Lawhead that the City Administrator be instructed to prepare a new city map showing zoning by color and lot. block and tract. AYES: NOES: Bowen. Lawhead. City Attorney Buck announced that the legal action of I~ndoz~ et al vs Frank Shufelt et al had been postponed until December 1st in Huntington Beach Justice Court. Mr. Buck stated further investigation as to codify- ing and indexing our ordinances would run about $1200.00. I It was decided to take the matter under adviseMent for further studY.. Mr. Bowen suggested that the Council should take some action relative to obtaining a Director for the ~outh Center Program. Mr. Webster stated he had arranBed to have Mr. Pauley of the State Recreation Commission here in the City Hall at 7:00 P.M. Monday. Nov. 9th to discuss plans and programs. It was further decided to interview ~ young couple interested in youth activities Thursday Nov. 5th at 8:00 P.M. The Mayor extended the appreciation in behalf of I the City to all organizations and individuals who helped Make the Halloween parties a success.
