October l~, 1943. The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in adjourned session at 8:00 P.M. ROLL CALL - Present: Mayor Reed Councilmen Felts, Henkey, postal Councilman Hughes Absent : The following communications were read: 1. Chas. S. Gillingham - Requesting the City to remove the palm tree from the parkWay in front of 147 - 11th Street. It was moved by Henkey, seconded by Felts to receive and file the communication from Mr. Gillingham, and that the matter of removing I the palm tree be referred to the Street Dep1t. Motion carried. 2. Roy S. Nelson, 215 Compton Blvd., Hynes, Calif. - attention 'to expiration of garbage contract on October Requesting renewal on same terms. It was moved by Henkey, seconded by Postal to reoeive and file calling 31st, 194-3. the cow~unication from Mr. Nelson, and that the garbage contract be renewed without bond. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Councilmen Felts, Henkey postal, Reed None Counoilman Hughes Motion carried. I 9. Bank of Amerioa, Belmont Shore Branch, by Geo. W. Dalessi, Manager - Bid for registered warrants of the City of Seal Beach up to $35,000.00. Rate of interest to be charged, 5 per cent. It was moved by postal, seconded by Felts to receive and file the bid of the Bank of America, and that the bid be accepted. AYES: Councilmen Felts, Henkey, postal, Reed NOES: None ABSENT: Oouncilman Hughes Motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 499 was introduced and read. - A RESOLUTION ,OF THE OITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTnm BID OF THE BANK OF AMERICA, BELMONT SHORE BRANCH, LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA, FOR NOTES, TAX ANTICIPATION WARRANTS, OR OTHER EVIDENCES OF INDEBTED- NESS ON BEHALF OF SAID CITY. It was moved by Postal, seconded by Henkey that Resolution No. 499 ~e adopted. I AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Councilman Felts, Henkey, postal, Reed None Councilman Hughes Motion carried. Garage The matter of disposing of the old garage building at 317 build ing - 317 Main Street was discussed. C. A. Miller presented two bids as Main St: Bids. follows: l. S. E. Talbert Building to be removed within 30 days. $150.00 2. $200.00 Jay P. Harper ~1. Salvage Depot. Building to be removed within 30 days. Alternate bid of Jay P. Harper $200.00 for the building, and 820.00 per month rent to the City if he can leave the building on the property for six months to be used as a store-room for potatoes. The question of finding a new location for the salvage depot was discussed. Mr. Miller suggested that Mr. Harper be approached with the proposal of allowing the City to continue to ~se a portion of the building for storage of salvage material. It was moved by Postal, seconded by Henkey that Mr. Miller be author- ized to negotiate with Mr. Harper for the sale of the old garage build. 'I. / ing on the basis of his bid. ACCOUNTS AND BILLS Motion carried. Bills Councilman Henkey was asked to serve on the Finance-Committee. Demand-,No. 398 - Boys I Olub of Seal Beach $50.00 It was moved by Postal, seconded by Henkey that the demand of the Boys I Club for $50.00 be allowed. AYES: Councilmen Felts, Henkey, Postal, Reed NOES: None ABSENT: Councilman Hughes Motion carried. ,I It was moved by Postal, seconded by Henkey that the second reg- ular meeting be held on Thursday, October 2Sth, 1943, at 7:30 P.M. instead of the 21st in order that the members of the Oity Council may attend the 45th Annual Conference of the League of California Cities in sacramento, October 19th to 21st. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Oouncilmen Felts, Henkey, Postal, Reed None Councilman Hughes Motion carried. Conven- The matter of expense money for delegates attending the League tion expense. Conference was discussed. It was moved by Postal, seconded by Felts that the members of the City Council, the City Attorney and City Clerk be advanced the sum of $75.00 each, to attend the Conference, and that this amount be adjuste( later to the actual cost o! the trip. I AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Oouncilmen Felts, Henkey, Postal, Reed None Councilman Hughes Motion carried. It was moved by Felts, seconded by Postal to adjourn. , Motion carried. Sell By unanimous consent, the motion to adjourn was rescinded to Police- car take up further business. The matter of disposing of the old Police- radio. car radio was discuosed. It was moved by Postal, seconded bf Henkey that the regular radio broadcast receiving set be offered for-sale for $50.00. . .
