November 12-18, 2012
WHEREAS, on November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress
declared, "Let there be two Battalions raised, and that they be
called Marines" - since their inception, they have served as
"Sharpshooters" from ship's riggings and close battles, earning
the well-deserved reputation as "Riflemen"; and
WHEREAS, since the Nation took its first steps as a World
Power, Marines marched in step, guiding and leading the
Country, asserting "We will be the first to fight", and they have
served with honor and distinction from "the Halls of
Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli"; and
WHEREAS, today Marines may be found throughout the world
in peacetime and in time of war, where they are proudly
known and cherished as "America's 911"; and
WHEREAS, the Marines show another caring side by
launching a "Toys for Tots" program to ensure that deserving
children receive gifts during the holiday season.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, the City of Seal
Beach, City Council does hereby proclaim the week of
November 12-18, 2012 as:
aVnited States !Marine Corps Week"
in the City of Seal Beach, and urge all residents to give thanks
and respect for the members of the Marine Corps for their
selfless and courageous service to our country.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereby affix my signature and the
seal of the City of Seal Beach this thirteenth day of November
in the Year Two Thousand Twelve.

WHEREAS, local businesses are essential to a
community's vitality and sustainability as a vibrant
and thriving locality where residents can secure
everyday goods and services; and
WHEREAS, shopping locally is one tangible way that
people can make a difference in their community; and
WHEREAS, by shopping local, residents
simultaneously keep dollars in the local economy,
foster local job creation and retention, embrace what
makes Seal Beach unique and special, preserve
entrepreneurship, help the environment, and support
for dozens of local schools and non-profit
organizations.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Seal Beach
City Council encourages all City residents when
shopping this holiday season and throughout the year
to first think
"SHOP LOCAL,"
