The City Council of the 01ty of Seal Beach met in adjourned session and was called to order by Mayor Ashman, with salute to the Flag. ROLL CALL: Present: Mayor Ashman Councilmen, Reed, Gauntner Absent: None COMMUNICATIONS: Letter of George M. Tadish, asking that he be allowed to re- conditlon building at 911, East Ocean Avenue, and fix it up to be Tadish fix Bldg re-zon Bay ilVd 'Thomas occupied as a real estate office. Councilman Gauntner stated that upon investigation he found that the building had been condemed and to allow this one to be remodeled would mean other condemed properties would petition the Council to do likewise. Gauntner moved that letter be received and filed, seconded by Reed. Motlon carried Letter and petition from the Planning Commission, John F. Burk- hart, Secretary, asking for re-zoniDg of west side of Bay Boulevard, from Electric Avenue to Highway 101, to a business zone. Motion by Reed, seconded by Gauntner that this be allowed. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Reed, Gauntner, Ashman None None Motion carrled Memo of 'phone call from Miss Cahill, field supervisor for the Federal Census, stating that she would arrive in Seal Beach, on Friday, May, 26, to start the enumeration here. Miss Cahill asked that she be assigned , suitable quarters to conduct the work. Gauntner moved that Council Chambers or other rooms that would best suit her purpose be set aside for her use, seconded by Reed, Motion carried Councilman Gauntner made the motion that Roy N. Thomas and City Mechanic be instructed to inspect Government Trucks listed in Speclal Bulletin of War Department as surplus Government property. Upon re-convening Attorney Williams read Resolution 519, A Resolution authorizing certain City Officials to sign checks for funds Reso B on deposit with ank of America, Belmont Shore Branch, Long Beach. 519 IG@ Reed moved Resolution 519, be adopted, seconded by Gauntner. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Reed, Gauntner, Asmman None None Motion carrled Ordn'e City Attorney Dana Williams read erdinance~28g, an amendment to the salary ordinance. Councilwoman Reed as~ed that before its ad- option the Council await the election of the t~o new members of 2SS the Council and that the 1944 - 1945 budget be consulted. Gauntner motioned that Ordinance 2S8, be deamed a~ having had its first reading, seconded by Ashman. Orange County recommending the adoption of a unified curfew ordinance for Orange County Cities. Councilman Gauntner ordered that the Curfew matter be looked into and ordered the letter received and filed, seconded by Reed. Motion Carried ACCOUNTS AND BILLS: Demands Numbering from 1102 to 1108 inclusive were read. Moved by Reed, seconded by Gauntner tha~ pills as read be allowed and warrants be drawn on the Treasury for same. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Reed, Gauntner, Ashman None None Motion carried UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Pier Lease, as there were no one present who formerly made an offer for the lease, matter was deferred. Norton & Bailey, subdivision, held over awaiting a report from Engineer Woolley'. , Attorney Williams reported that he was unable to make any report on the Lang Bus re-routing into Seal Beach until next meeting. Attorney Williams called attention to the matter of the Volun State Compensation Insurance Fund in connection with the Voluentary tary Police Police. Gauntner moved that the City assume responsibility for payment of the additional premium, seconded by Reed.
