June 1st, 1944.
The City Council of the City of Seal.Beach met in regular
session at 8:00 P. M. and was called to order by Mayor Ashman with
salute to the Flag.
ROLL CALL:

The Minutes of regular meeting of May, 18th, were read
and approved.
The Mlnutes of adjourned meeting of May, 24th, were read
and approved.
COMMUNICATIONS:
A. S. Monroe's letter calling attentlon to the imparement of
the City's domestic ~ater supply through furnishing of the extra

amount of water that would be needed by Contractors on the Navy
Water
Development. Councilman Gauntner moved that the letter be received

and filed, and that the matter ~e thoroughly checked and investi-
gated. Attorney Wl11iams suggested the appointment of a committee

of one to be accompanied by the City Englneer to make an invest-

letter and send Purchase order to the Regional Property Utilization
Offlce, for one of the trucks listed in their bulletin dated May, 22,
1944, seconded by Reed.

Letter of Nola Thomas, stating that she has commenced work as
Police Clerk, Matron and Switchboard Operator on an eight hour day

the Police Department, retroactive to June, 1st. seconded By Gauntner.

Report of C. A. Miller of the Tax, Water and Building Depart-
ments, togather with report of City Judge and Chief' of Police were
read. Moved by Reed that reports be received and filed, seconded by
Gauntner.

City Attorney Dana Williams read a request of the Pacific
Electric Railway for tqe adoption of a resolution and franchise to
Ry. permit the re-routing of the Company's tracks over certain named
Franc streets through the City of Seal Beach. Gauntner moved that this

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
City Attorney Dana Wll1iams read Ordinance 288, an amendment
to the salary ordinance. Councilwoman Reed ob3ected saying it
should await the vote of the two i~coming members of the Council.
Gauntner motioned that Ordinance 288, be deemed as haying had its
second reading, seconded by Ashman.

Regarding employment of Earl Whittington as Life Guard,
Councilwoman Reed suggested that as he had been employed in the
maintenance department at one time he should be entitled to a
"
rate equal to this department as he would be Captain of the Life
Wit tin
gton Guards. Attorney Williams pointed out' that this would necessate
embodying same in the salary ordinance. ,Councilman Gauntner
motioned that the Council recind its second reading of salary ordi:':
