M. and was called to order by Mayor Ashman with salute to the Flag. ROLL CALL: AB9ENT: Present, Mayor Ashman Councilmen, Reed, Gauntner None The Minutes of regular meeting of May, 18th, were read and approved. The Mlnutes of adjourned meeting of May, 24th, were read and approved. COMMUNICATIONS: A. S. Monroe's letter calling attentlon to the imparement of the City's domestic ~ater supply through furnishing of the extra Monroe amount of water that would be needed by Contractors on the Navy Water Development. Councilman Gauntner moved that the letter be received Supply and filed, and that the matter ~e thoroughly checked and investi- gated. Attorney Wl11iams suggested the appointment of a committee Gauntner to investigate. Mayor Ashman appointed Councilmanhas a committee of one to be accompanied by the City Englneer to make an invest- igation and report, seconded by Reed. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Reed, Gauntner, Ashman None None Motlon carried Letter of John Weeks, 602, Central Avenue, asking t~e Council~oman Reed moved to receive and removal of two Palm trees. Week's Trees file the letter and that the Street Superintendent be instructed to . have trees removed, seconded by Gauntner, Question singular or plura11 AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Reed, Gauntner, Ashman None None Motion carried Letter from Philip Norton Inc., asking for name of thor- oughfare which lies north of tract 698, a~a~~~eoHillman Ranch. Street Superintendent Miller stated the name was Coast Highway. Norton Councilman Gauntner motioned that the City Clerk be instructed to St. Name write Norton as to the street's name, seconded by Reed. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Reed, Gauntner, Ashman None None Motion carried Fire Chief W. S. Xnighton'present letter stating that the Fire Department is badly ~n need of a light truck to carry the I I I Fire Dep't Truck Resuscilator, first aid kit, Back Pumps and Masks, thus saving wea~~ and tear on the larger equipment. Gauntner motioned City Clerk write letter and send Purchase order to the Regional Property Utilization Offlce, for one of the trucks listed in their bulletin dated May, 22, 1944, seconded by Reed. AYES: NO!I: ABSENT: Reed, Gauntner, Ashman None None Motion carried I Letter of Nola Thomas, stating that she has commenced work as Police Clerk, Matron and Switchboard Operator on an eight hour day Nola Thomas basis, and requesting a salary of e125.00 per month. Councilwoman vide for this position and made the motion that Attorney Williams be in structed to include in the salary ordinance the position of Clerk of the Police Department, retroactive to June, 1st. seconded By Gauntner. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Reed, Gauntner, Ashman None None Motion carried BOY's Club Letter of J. P. Butler, President of the Boy's Club setting out in detail the Financial Statis of the Club. Motion by Reed that same be received and filed, seconded by Gauntner. Motion carried I CITY OFFICERS REPORTS: Report of C. A. Miller of the Tax, Water and Building Depart- ments, togather with report of City Judge and Chief' of Police were read. Moved by Reed that reports be received and filed, seconded by Gauntner. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Reed, Gauntner, Ashman None None Motion carried ACCOUNTS AND BILLS: Demands numbering from 1109 to 1168 inclusive were read. moved by Reed, seconded by Gauntner, that demands as read be approved and'warrents be drawn on the Treasury for same. City Attorney Dana Williams read a request of the Pacific Electric Railway for tqe adoption of a resolution and franchise to Ry. permit the re-routing of the Company's tracks over certain named Franc streets through the City of Seal Beach. Gauntner moved that this chise matter be held in abeyance untl1 it had been checked completely by by the City Engineer and a full report made available, seconded by Re4c AYES: NOES: AB6EliT : Reed, Gauntner, Ashman None None Motion carried /6-+ Ordin ance 288 2nd. Read ing Life Guard UNFINISHED BUSINESS: City Attorney Dana Wll1iams read Ordinance 288, an amendment to the salary ordinance. Councilwoman Reed ob3ected saying it should await the vote of the two i~coming members of the Council. Gauntner motioned that Ordinance 288, be deemed as haying had its second reading, seconded by Ashman. AYES: NO!I: Absent Gauntner, Ashman Reed None Motion carried I Regarding release r1 Lee Howa1'll Bond, Councilman Gauntner motioned that a letter be received from Auditor Frank before so doing, seconded by Reed. N.IS#; ......... ~ 41iCM'...". ...."'E' Motion carried Regarding employment of Earl Whittington as Life Guard, Councilwoman Reed suggested that as he had been employed in the maintenance department at one time he should be entitled to a " rate equal to this department as he would be Captain of the Life Wit tin gton Guards. Attorney Williams pointed out' that this would necessate embodying same in the salary ordinance. ,Councilman Gauntner motioned that the Council recind its second reading of salary ordi:': nance, seconded by Reed. Plan Comm'n Vacant AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Gauntner, Ashman I Reed, None None Motion carried After appending of position of Captain of Life Guards to the salary ordinance, Councilman Gauntner moved that Ordinance 288, be deemed as having had its 2nd reading, seconded by Ashman.
