M. and was called to order by Mayor Ashman with salute to the Flag. ROLL CALL: Present, Absent, Mayor Ashman Councilmen, Reed, Gauntner None I The minutes of the regular meeting of June, 1st and the special ~eetlng of June 6th were read and approved. COMMUNICATIONS: State Board of Equalizatlon, C. Benno to Lee C. Benno and John Pi notice of transfer from Lee I Johnson off sale Distilled . 9 Liquor Spirits. New license to Lee C. Benno and John P. Johnson, off Permit sale Beer and Wine. .prdered received and filed Mayor's Mot In Letter of American Legion requesting $15.00 transportatlon expense for one Boy to Boy's State, motion by Gauntner seconded Boy'S by .Reed to receive and file and request be granted. Cahill, letter announcing prelimenary Census Enumeration as 2912. Miss Cahill's financial report of expendi- Census turee was submitted. Councilwoman Reed moved letter and report be received and filed, seconded by Gauntner. Attorney William's was 1/4 Ct directed to communicate with proper State Official. Gas Tax Seal Beach Post asking renewal of contract for Legal advertising for the fiscal year 1944 - 1945. Gauntner motioned that same be held ln abeyance until full Council sits, lost for want of a second. Post's Adv't Cont't I, Water For 157 Councilwoman Reed moved to receive and file and that contract be renewed for one year. Lost for want of a second. Gauntner moved that matter be held over until next meeting, seconded by Reed. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Reed, Gauntner, Ashman None None Motion carried Councilman Gauntner reported that upon consul~ation with the Oity Engineer that the Atkinson Co's proposal to suppllment and use water from the Clty's system had the possibillty of jeopardizing our water s~pp1y.. Water Superintendent C. A. Miller suggested so long as' we had a stand by aarr~ngement with Long Beach no doubt a satisfacvory arrangement could be made tmtauppey the additional needed water.' Navy Cont'r Oouncilman Gauntner Motioned to grant to the Atkinson Company the 9' " pri- vllege of connecting with Seal Beach water system, provided satisffact ory arrangements to supply the additional needed water can be made with the Long Beach Water Department, Seconded by Reed. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Reed, Gauntner, Ashman None None Motion carried Grant of right of way privilege and franchise to the Pacific Electric Railway. Councilwoman Reed motioned that same be referred to P. E. the City Engineer and same be not granted until full assurance had Fran 'chise been received from the Railway that complete and adequate drainage would be installed and maintained, seconded by Gauntner. Motion by Reed, 2nd by Gauntner reports be recd and filed. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: -, . Reed, Gauntner, Ashman None None Motion carried Attorney Williams read copy qf permit granting rights to Gilco, Oil Company from the Los Angeles Flood Control District. I. NEW BUSINESS: Letter of Margaret P. Smith with check attached, asking to redeem lot 44, block 14, Moved by Reed, Seconded by,Gauntner tHat the Council recind its action of accepting deed to this property' . and to authorize the Tax Collector to accept payment of the tax add issue the usual redemption certificate. AYES: NOES.: ABSENT: Reed, Gauntner, Ashman None None Motion carried Superintendent C. A. Miller to City Employees vacation pay. Maintenance foreman Thomas stated that as gas was not obtainable for' pleasure travel most men expressed wish to stay on job and draw v ac- ation pay in addition to the regular wage.' Gauntner motioned that men receive double time while worklng the vacation periOd, second by Reed, but that she preferred seeing men take advantage of the vacation if enough men were available to man the job properly while others were away. I AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Reed Gauntner, Ashman None None Motion carriee City Attorney Williams cited legal opinions handed down by the State Supreme Court, that appointed or hlred employees of a Municipality were working for the City at the pleasure of its City Council. Councilman Gauntner motioned that an amendment to Ordinance 26g be adopted, lost for want of a second. Motion to adjourn by Gauntner, seconded by Reed. Motion carried , .
