The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in special
session at 7:30 P. M., at the request of the Mayor and was called
to order by Mayor Ashman with salute to the Flag.
ROLL CALL:
Present, Mayor Ashman,
Councilmen, Reed, Shouler, Gauntner, Jaeckel
Absent None
City Clerk read the notice of Special Meetlng.
Upon approval of all members of the City Cou~cl1 a rate of
pay for Special Police Officers and Life Guards was agreed upon

as follows, Police Officers, 50 cents per hour, Life Guards, $5.00
per day, both rates and positions to be introduced and acted upon

Mayor Ashman nomlnated the following persons to serve as

City Engineer J. A. Woolley, City Attorney Dana Williams, Elmer
J. Hughes, B. F. Krenwinkel, J. H. Burkhart, Fred J. Smith, J. H.
McGaugh, W. D. Gauntner and A. M. Ashman.

Fire Chief W. S. Knighton appeared personally before the
Council and explained ln a manner easy to understand, the past
dificulties and growth of the Department, its needs for the present,
and planning that must be taken under coneideration to have an
efficient Depar~ment for the future. In the making up of the 1944 -
1945 budget now under way these matters are to be given planned
consideration. Chief Knighton brought to the attention of the
Council the great fire hazard created by the dry grass and weeds
strewn over property everywhere in the City. The need for an
ordinance to have property owners install a safe and acceptable
insinerator was forceably stressed upon.
Motton to adjourn by Gauntner, seconded by Reed,
