The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met in regular session and was called to order by Mayor Gauntner with salute to the Flag. ROLL CALL: Present, Mayor Gauntner I Councilmen, Reed Shouler, Butler, Jaeckel Absent, None The Minutes of the Regular, Meeting of August 3rd were read and approved on Mayor'-' s motion. COMMUNICATIONS: Orange Copy of letter written by the Orange County Title Co., to the Navy Acquisition Office regarding unpaid taxes. It was Co. moved by Reed, seconded by Shouler that same be referred to the Ti tle' City Attorney. . Motion carried Board City Attorney Williams was directed to take up with Willis Warner, Chairman ~f Orange County Board of Supervisors, matter of Life Guard protection on County owned beaches,. of Lee Howard, Police chief submitted for approval names of his apoointments. W, Armstrong's report of the Salvage Committee to Aug., 1st 1944. It was moved by Councilwoman Reed, seconded by Butler Salvage Report that report be received and filed and Mr. Armstrong be written a letter of appreciation. Motion carried Letter of Chamber of Commerce thanking the Council for C of C voting financial support. Received and filed on Mayor1s motion. Letter of Orange County League of City'S announcing date of next regular monthly meeting to be at 101, Ranch House. Letter of Donald B. Grant and Mrs. A. K. Tweeten requesting Housing return of Housing fie-Location bond deposit. It was moved by Reed Re-Loc'n seconded by Jaeckel that the City Treasurer be directed to so do. Two letters of the Navy Land Acquisition Office, one asking Navy Tax I I Ord'n 292 I Ord'n 293 ., - '1 Asking cancellatio~ of 19~4 - 45 taxes,. one asking deletion or theJ J Navy acquired property from the assessment roll. Citytax collector Miller made objection to removing property from the assessment roll. After some discussion the Council agreed to the cancellation of the 1944 - 45 taxes but the land values to remain on the aseesment roll and entered exempt from tax. On Mayor's motion letters were referr- ed to the City Attorney for attention. Letter of Mrs. Lucile Bowlin who was reported to be a person of the Negro race, enquiring of a Mrs. Graves if she wished to sell her Seal Beach lot. Attorney Williams stated he desired to make up with~e Orange County Title Companies their ruling regarding race restrictions in property. Held over until next regular meeting. ACCOUNTS AND BILLS: Demands numberihg 216 to 273 inclusive were read. It was moved by Councilwoman Reed, seconded by Shouler that demands as read be approved and warrants drawn on the Treasury for same. It was moved by Councilwoman Reed, seconded by Shouler that the reports be received and filed. It was moved by Butler, seconded by Shouler that Ordinance No. 292 be deemed as having had its second reading. W~dden be employed as City Engineer, on an if as and when needed basis at a rate of $15. per day, plus incidentals for telephone, mileage at the usual rate etc. The taxi-cab ordinance was referred to the City Attorney for study and report.
