The City council of the City of Seal Beach met in regular session at 7:30 P. ~. and was called to order by Mayor Gauntner ~ith salute to the Flag. Present, Mayor Gauntner Councilmen, Reed, Shouler ~utler, Jaeckel ~one I Absent, The minutes of the regular me~ting of rovember 20, Tere read and approved on Mayors motion COMl~'ICATIOllS: State Board of Equalization, notices of change of name B. of Ec from Vivian Laird to George E. Stucken and Earl S. Raines, Garden Garden of Allah. Received and filed on Mayors motion. Allah Cards of thanks from family, and Adury Snell for floral offering to Lt. Miller, and card Eddingfield family for floral off1rn. Lt Miller Request from Thomas R. Jones for removal of of two palm trees from in front of his home at 150, 13th Street. It was moved by Councilman Shouler, seconded oy Reed that request be granted. Motion carried I Letter of Thomas O'Sullivan, Pastor St. Ahns Church asking St. Ann's for cancellation of 1944 - 45 taxes on Church property. Upon Church concent of the City Attorney it was moved by Councilman Butler Taxes seconded by Jaeckel that request be gran~ed. Basil Witzg, CornelIa Oregon, requesting that 1944 - 45 taxes on son's Seal Beach lot be not penalized Letter for non payment of taxes as he ~as absent serving overseas in the armed services. City Attorney explained th~t there were mo State law which made any provision for such suspension of taxes. Shufelt, Chairman of the local War Finance Shufelt 60mmittee, asking that the City invest anticipated surplus funds War Bonds in United States Treasury War bond offerings. Maturities arranged I Fed'rl Reserve to meet maturity dates on the City's bond obligations. Mayor Gauntner stated that it ~as and h~B been the intention to match dollar for dollar an investment in War Bonds to retire all out- standing obligations against property owned by the City of Seal Beach ~hic"has recently been aCQuired by the United States Gover- nment, Navy Department. Consider- able discus8ion arose regarding the bonds and the proposed Civic Auditorium. Oouncilman Butler stated it was his opinion that the Butler' structure should provide a bowling ally. Butler stated that he BVll Ally wished to go on record as opposed to Sunday dancing. It was moved by Councilman Valentine Jaeckel , seconded by Butler that the City Attorney be directed and Script authorized to make a thorough investigation into all phases of the matter and take the necessary steps that may be required to defend the City's property rights.
