M. and was oalled to order by Mayor Gauntner with salute to the Flag. Present, Absent, Mayor Gauntner Councilmen, Reed, Shouler, Butler, Jaeckel None I The minutes of regular meeting of December 4th were read. Oouncilman Butler requested that his statement recorded in the minutes of the regular meeting of December 4th be more com- plete and to read. "Councilman Butler stated that he wished to go on record as opposed to Sunday dancing not only from a moral Butler standpoint, but that it will not pay financially, further that he Sunday obj eot ea.... to,.,be1ng' misquot ed in the Seal Beach Post and Wave in Danoing its issue of December 8th and to go on record to recommend that misrepresentation of facts be discontinued. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Reed, Shouler, Butler, Jaeckel, Gauntner None None Motion carried I Counoilman Butler stated that his reason for amending the minutes was that a permanent and pUblic record should be made of all published mis~statements. Mayor Gauntner asked that the Council records carry the statement"that four fifths of this Council did not make the sta-e-- Gauntner ment that they would not submit the Auditorium matter to a vote on 4/5 of Council of the people. Four fifths of this Council will try their very best to build the City and give the citizens what they deserve. "We have given no definate statement as to the cost of the Audit'm Auditorium, due to the faot that anyone who has ever done any building or contracting knows it is impossible to give figures as to cost until you know what you are to build, and have plans I and specifications drawn before you can arrive at the cost. "Four fifths of this Council has never stated that we would not put to a vote of the publ1c the building of an Audit- orium when the time came. We have put before practically every Vote of people organization the proposed plans and purposes to which this Audit- t\. ::-. .: orium will be adopted. About gOO voters and citizens who signed the circulated petitions have approved of the tentative plans and location. The architect is employed, plans and specifications are peing prepared and as soon as these are completed we shall be able to lay before the public the exact cost, not just rumors or gusess. "We shall present them to the voting public for their app- roval and shall continue on that line and shall build the Audit- Audit'ljI Vote orium as soon as possible. We believe in printing nothing but I .. .-" facts, not just wild rumors. I also want corrected the State- ment, that I would not pay any attention to taxpayers. City Attorney Williams read a copy of his letter, addressed to Vice President Kent, Bank of America, San Francisco Headquar- Willim1st ers, in reply to his Kent's letter addressed to the City Council, Letter dated November 16, 1944. Vice President Kent's reply to Attorney to Kent Williams' letter was read to the City Council by Williams. It was moved by Councilman Butler, seconded by Shouler that Mayor Gauntner did not make the statement. It was moved by Comm'n Councilwoman Reed, Aeconded by Jaeckel that lots 36-38 Block 6, Brown Lots Bay City. Tract be re-zoned as requested by Harry F. Brown, by amending the zoning ordinance. It was moved by Councilman Butler, seconded by Jaeckel that reports be re- ceived and filed. . It was moved by Councilman Butler, seconded by Shouler that Resolution No. 534 be adopted. It 'was moved by Councilwoman Reed, seconded by Jaeckel that Ordin- ance No. 3~ be deemed as having had its first reading. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Reed, Shouler, Butler, Jaeckel, Gauntner None None Motion carried Ordinance No. 305 was introduced, an ordinance providing for garage only on single lot. It was moved by Councilwoman Reed seconded by Butler to refer same back to the Planning Commission, failed for want of a roll call. It was moved by Shouler, seconded by Butler that Ordinance No. 305 be deemed as having had its first reading. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Reed, None None Shouler, Butler, Jaeckel, Gauntner Motion carried Councilman Butler reported results of enquiries he made in rearby communities regarding palm tree care and preservation. Palm Tree Butler futther suggested a memorial plaque sttached to selected Oare Trailer Park Waste News- papers trees would make a fitting tribute to our service men and women. Councilman Shouler suggested naming of City trees after our en- rolled war service people. Councilw~man Reed called attention to the vast amount of newspapers that were being needlesly destroyed at the Trailer Park. Maintenance Foreman Thomas advised if the Park people wo~ld have them bundled he would have the salvage crew make regular collections. I. Superintendent Miller reported that two new policies of in- Oity Hall surance had been written on the City Hall Building at a sizeable Insur1e saving over previous.policies due to a favorable rate adjustment.
