The City Council of the City of Seal Beach met i~ regular adjourned
session at 8:00 P. M.and was called to order by Mayor Jaeckel with
salute to the Flag.

Absent
City Clerk read section 9918 of the Election Code.
Counting of absentee ballots was the first order of business. 2S
ballots in all were used. Twenty seven (27) ballots from sealed envel-
opes we~opened, two (2) were spoiled ballots. One envelope and ballot
was not returned. Two (2) ballots had stamped four (4) candidates for
the four year term, those sections thus marked were rejected. The
result of canvass of ballots resulted as follows.

CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF-SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, DECLARING THE RE~
SULTS OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN SAID CITY ON TUESDAY
THE 9'IHDAY OF APRIL, 1946.

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNll, DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
That the whole number of votes cast at at said Election was 1,143;
that the persons voted for, the offices which they were voted for, the
number of votes given each person in each precinct, togather with the
total number of votes given to each person, togather with the vote for
proposition No.1, and proposition no 2,

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that at said General
Municipal Election, Louis E. Jaeckel, was elected City Councilman
in the City of Seal Beach, for a four year term; that Jessie W.
Reed, was elected City Councilman in the City of Seal Beach for
a four yea,r term; that Frank L. Shufelt was elected City Councilman
in the City of Seal Beach, for a four year term; that James P.
Butler was elected a City Councilman in the City of Seal Beach for
a two year term; that Lew Webster was elected a City Councilman in
the City of Seal Beach, for a two year term; that Proposition No.
1 was defeated; that Proposition No.2 was defeated. It was moved
by Butler, second by Reed that Resolution No. 557 be adopted.

City Clerk at once proceeded to administer oath of office to the
elected officia,ls and presented them with a certificate of election.
Councilman Webster then took his seat at the Council table.
It was moved by Butler, seconded by Shufelt that Councilwoman
Reed be named temporary chaiman.
Motion carried
It was moved by Butler that Councilman Shufelt be named Mayor.
Shufelt thanked the Council for its confidence in him but declined
the nomination for business reasons. Shufelt next nominated Coun-
cilman Jaeckel as Mayor, second by Butler.
