M. and was called to ord~r 'by Mayor Shufelt with salute to the flag. PRESENT: Mayor Shufelt Councilmen Webster, Brostrom, Armagost, Jacobsen. ABSENT: None I' The minutes of the regular meeting of Sept. 24th and the adjourned meeting of Sept. 30th wer~ read and approved on Mayor's motion. PETITIONS: Paving A petition bearing the signatures of 104 property owners 3-4 out of 155 lots was presented, asking the City Oouncil to form 2-4- th an assessment district for the paving of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th streets SfI! ets Rent Con- trol Bea- ch 'Conc- essi- one Sha- rp from Ocean Avenue to Ooast Highway, and Central Way from 1st Street to 5th Street, and the alleys in all blocks from 1st to 5th. After some discussion it was agreed that the c~ty Engineer was to bring in at the next Council meeting figures on approxi- mate cost to property owners, at which time the Oity Oouncil, would set a date for public ~earing on the project. -I COMMUNICATIONS. 1. Letter from Oounty Clerk enclosing carbon copies pf letters from Ward Oox, Regional Rent Admr., San Francisco, and from the director of State Reconstruction and Re-employment Oommissioner, Sacramento, relative to decontrol of Orange Oounty. Received and filed on Mayorl s motion. 2. Letter from Chamber of Commerce in regard to permitting amusements on the beach. Mr. Adrian D. Sharp of Long Beach ad- dressed 1he Council on the matter of being able to furnish amuse- ment zone equipment. It was moved by Jacobsen, seconded by Armagost that the letter be filed for further consideration. AYES: Webster, Brostrom, Armagost, Jacobsen, Shufelt NOES: None ABSENT: None Motion Oarried. I 3. Letter from the Chamber of Oommerce- on the matter of Alamitos o of C Bay Marina and the removal of Ocean Avenue Bridge. W. D. Gauntner Yac- addressed the Council on the matter as did F. W. Hickman. Oity hts Har- bor Attorney Dana Williams called attention to letters that have al- ready been written to the Board of superVisors and to Federal Engineer. Later received and filed on Mayor's motion. 4~b 4. Letter from J. Jolly Jones, Postmaster, expressing his appre- ciation of th~ good work done by the Fire DeIBrtment a~ the time of the fire in the post office August 1st. Received and filed on Mayor's motion. The street Superintendent read letter from E. O. Johnson, Ohief Engineer of the P~cific Electric Railway Co. in answer to our letter of Sept. 29th, requesting them to clean up right-of-way between Main P. O. Fire P. E. clean I Street and 14th Street. Maintenance foreman Roy Thomas reported that the clean-up had been taken care.of satisfactorily. City Officers' Reports were read. It was moved by Brostrom, seconded by Jacobsen that demands be allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasury for same. Pargman in the matter of vegetable stand license at Main and / 101 wa.s again referred to the, City Attorn~y for reply, on motion by Webster, seconded by Brostrom. , . AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Fix Webster, Brostrom, Armagost, Jacobsen, Shufelt None None Motion carried. ~ The matter of who is to pay the cost of curb repair at intersec- tions was referred to the City Attorney. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Webster, Brostrom, Armagost, Jacobsen, Shufelt None None Motion carried. <106 Sewer Mayor Shufelt asked for the approval of the Council ~f the designation of the Planning Commission to arrange for a joint meeting of the City Council and Planning Oommission with a representative of the Orange County Board of Supervisors to discuss the plan of Oounty wide sewer system. Bowman asking Oouncil to remove re- striction on her rental property at 120, Dolphin Avenue. It was moved by Webster, second by Armagost that a temporary permit be granted Mrs. Bowman to lIake use of said property for a per'iod of J one year.
