Stangeland appeared before the Oouncil and made an apology for his actions and language used by him during the discus~ion on the umbrella concession in the meeting of March 21st. ~r Stangeland's apology was accepted by all members of the Council present. Meeting was called to order with salute to the Flag. Present, Absent, Mayor Shufelt Councilmen, Bowers, Brostrom, Jacobsen, Leonard Oouncilmen, None Prot- I ests On Ord. 376 The minutes of regular meeting of April 4th were read and after correction of error in price paid for Street grader and the addition of statement that said grader was purchased on conditional sales agreement, were on Mayors motion approved as read. On motion by Jacobsen, second by Bowers the regular order of business'was dispensed with to allow persons present in the large audiance gathered to express their displeasure on the adoption of" Ordinance No. 376., Richard and Sylvia Steyling, Eugene Keenoy, Mar~ha Ohadwick, Max Henkey, Jessie W. Reed, Walter W. Mahaffey, Oharles A. Bradshaw and many others presented their objections, as did Oouncil- Gamb- man Brostrom. Letters of ' protest from the Woman's Olub and Woman's ling Society of Ohristian Endevor were read. It was moved by Bowers, second by Brostrom that Ordinance No. 376 be tabled for two weeks. Hammond, Department of the,Navy, John Phillips, M. 0., Sheridan Downey, Senator, William F. Knowland, Senator, and _ J. F. Jelly, Bureau of Yards and Docks were read. These letters were in reply to a request of the Mayor on the poesible purchase of addit- ional water lande for the City, from property of the Navy Ammunition and Net Depot Base. City Engineer made a written report approving the Ocean Avenue paving recently completed by the Ansco Oonetruction 00. It was moved by Jacobsen, second by Bowers that the City accept the work 1 and allow the d~mand in the amount of 85% of the.contract price, the balance of 15% to pe pai4 on receipt of certificate of completion from the Oity Engineer. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Bowers, Brostrom, None None Jacobsen, L~onard, Shufelt Motion carried Letter of the Seal Beach Youth Foundation Inc., asking the Oouncil for lease agreement with option to purchase the Lhr8:l Ci ty 1 Foun- dation lots adjoining the Library on the north., It ~as moved by Leonanrd Inc second Bowe~s that the City Council meet with the directors of Youth Foundation Inc., in the Council Chambers at 7:30 P. M. April 28th to fully discuss the matter. Oity Attorney directed to make such amendment to Ordi~nce No. 199. Motion carried Letter of V. F. W. Post 4048 asking for lease of the Beach Park- V. F. W. ing Lot and for an appointment with the Oouncil to discues the Park Lot matter'in detail. It was moved by Jacobsen, second by Bowers that reports be received and filed. Motion carried Demands numbering 1275 to 1329 inclusive amounting to $9,533.83 as approved by the Finance Oommittee were presented. It was moved by Bowers, second by Brostrom that bills be allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasury for same. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Bowers, Brostrom, Jacobsen, Leonard, Shufelt None None Motion carried It was moved by Leonard, second by Brostrom that the City purch- ase a road disk in the amount of $345.00 plus sales tax. AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Bowers, Brostrom, Jacobsen, Leonard, Shufelt None None Motion carried It was moved by Bowers, second by Jacobsen that the offer of Umbre- lla Gerhardt Stangeland of 81,300.00 per annum for the beach umbrella Conce- ssion Stang- eland I Diehl Rep't I concession be accepted and the City Attorney be directed to prepare said lease agreement to be executed by Mr. 'Stangeland within five (5) days from this date.
