Meeting was called to order with salute to the Flag. Present, Absent, Mayor Shufelt Councilmen, Bowers, Brostrom, Jacobsen, Leonard Oouncilmen, None I Fire The minutes of regular meeting of June 6th were read and approved, on Mayor's motion. Letter of the Fire Depar~ment asking,the present Council to earmark 815,000 that was set up by a previous Oouncil for the Stat- ion purpose of building a fire station and add an additional $5,000 to the above amount. ~hat said station be built in the very near future. Held over for consideration at time of making up of the budget. Letter of the Woman's Olub asking Oouncil to adopt an,ordinance Woman's prohibiting the forceful cutting of children's hair by other school Club Hair- children was read. It was the opinion of the Oity Attorney that there are present laws that amply ca,re for the situation. Received Cut I and Filed. Letter of Betty Sandy, 313 10th Street, calling attention to Betty the very dusty condition of the alley North of Electric Avenue, bet- Sandy ween Main and lOth Street, referred to the Street Maintenance Fore- man. Received and filed. Dis- aster Letter of.the State Disaster Oouncil certifying the Oity,as having an "Accredited Disaster Council". Received and Filed. Buffum protesting the increasing number of small umbrella Referred to Beach and Park Oommittee. Telegram of Harry Buffum and petition presented by Max Henkey structures on the beach. McLean basis of compensation for work performed for the City. Letter of Ralph S. McLean outlining to the Oouncil his expected Received and quits Fn ed. ,I Report of the'Oity Treasurer and Oity Olerk for the month of May was read. It was moved by Jacobsen, second by Bowers that be received.and filed. Motion carried Demands numbering 1571 to 1631 inclusive amounting to $9,086.52 were presented for payment. Councilman Brostrom refused to sign demand No. 1625 for Election Supplies. It was moved by Jacobsen r;"~ v""OJ Reso. 673 Muni- cipal Water Phone second by Bowers that demand No. 1625 be allowed. It was moved by Bowers, second ,by Jacobsen that the Seal Beach Post and Wave be awarded the Legal advertising for the City on the basis of 8 point type, capitals and lower case. 12 cents per line 1st insertion, 10 CsES per line 2nd insertion, 8 cents per line 3rd and subsequent in- ~ Leonard, Jacobsen, Brostrom, Bowers, Shufelt None None Motion ,carried It was moved by Leonard, second by Jacobsen to abolish the I position of Assistant Foreman of Maintenance Department and former Asst. Oard of thanks from Ourley Webber's family for floral wreath. Received and filed. ~etter of Mrs. Myrtle Johnson, asking permission to rent her lots at 10th and Ocean Avenue for car parking purposes. It was moved by Jacobsen, second by Bowers that request be denied until such time as lots are black topped. W. a,sking that their Business License be pro- rated as their lease of parking lot terminates September 30, 1949. City Attorney advised that as no provision was provided in the Business Ordinance for a shorter term than an annual basis, the Council had no other alternative than to deny the request. Letter of Doroth Dallas, asking Business License for Physic Reading. It was moved by Brostrom, second by Leonard that request be denied.
