VMEREAS, The Nation has had many natural disasters that have
tested response ability across all levels of government; and
VMEREAS, The coalition of West Orange County Regional
Community Emergency Response Team (West County CERT) Cities
and the Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) will be hosting and
attending various events around our area; and
"WERFAS, Despite the brave actions of first responders across
America, neighbors and friends are often the first on the scene after an
emergency, and circumstances can call anyone to become a hero. This
year's National Preparedness Month theme, "You Can Be the Hero,"
asks all Americans to ready themselves to assist in case of emergency.
Anyone can improve their preparedness by making or reviewing
emergency plans with their family and by building a disaster kit with
food, water, and essential supplies.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City of Seal Beach,
City Council does hereby proclaim the Month of September as
"National Preparedness Month
in the City of Seal Beach, and further encourage all residents to
recognize the importance of preparedness and observe this month by
working together to enhance our national and local security,
resilience, and readiness.

Proclamation
"Fire Prevention Week"
2013 Theme: "Prevent Kitchen Fires!"
October 6 - 12, 2013
WHEREAS, the Orange County Fire Authority is committed to
ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting
within their jurisdiction; and
WHEREAS, two of every five home fires start in the kitchen where
cooking is the leading cause, when unattended equipment was a
factor, in the United States where fire departments responded to more
than 156,000 annually between 2007 and 2011; and
WHEREAS, 57% of reported non-fatal home cooking fire injuries
occurred when the victims tried to fight the fire themselves; and
WHEREAS, working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in reported
home fires in half; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seal Beach residents are responsive to public
education measures and are able to take personal steps to increase
their safety from fire, especially in their homes; and
WHEREAS, the 2013 Fire Prevention Week theme, "Prevent Kitchen
Fires!" effectively serves to remind us to stay alert and use caution
when cooking to reduce the risk of kitchen fires.
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE PROCLAIMED that the City of Seal
Beach, does hereby recognize the week of October 6 - 12, 2013 as
"FIRE PREVENTION
and urges everyone to check their kitchens for fire hazards, use safe
cooking practices, and to support the many public safety activities
and efforts of the Orange County Fire Authority's fire and emergency
services.

PROCLAMATION
Woman's Club of Seal Beach
-90 Years of Service—
WHEREAS, the Woman's Club of Seal Beach was organized in 1923
by eight concerned women whose goals at that time were to secure
home mail service, better street lighting, and speeding laws for the
City of Seal Beach; and
WHEREAS, the Woman's Club is now celebrating 90 Dears of city
involvement and commitment supporting and promoting the
educational, civic, and charitable advancement to the Seal Beach
community while encouraging friendship among their members; and
WHEREAS, the Woman's Club provides countless volunteer hours of
support and contribution to the families of the local militant, to the
local schools and colleges, Mangy Wilson Library, the Seal Beach
Animal Care Center, and many more local groups.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Seal Beach
City Council does hereby congratulates and expresses their
appreciation to the
" Woman's Club of Seal Beach"
and recognize its members for their 90 years of community support and
involvement.
