CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Ernest Area, Maintenance Services Supervisor, led the board and other meeting
attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance.
ROLL CALL
City Tree Advisory Board (CTAB) members Jan Stillwell, Paul Christanson, and Mario
Voce were present at the meeting. Jim Caviloa was absent from the meeting.
The meeting was chaired by Ernest Area, Maintenance Services Supervisor. Also in
attendance were Sean Crumby, Director of Public Works/Assistant City Manager, and
Luis Estevez, Deputy Director of Public Works. Heather Gibbs, Executive Assistant, was
present to take the meeting minutes.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
PUBLIC COMMENTS
There were no public comments.
SCHEDULED MATTERS
A. Approval of Minutes: April 3, 2013
Mario Voce moved to approve the minutes of the April CTAB meeting; Paul
Christanson seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
STAFF CONCERNS
A. Tree Removal Request:
1. Located at 620 Island View Drive
Ernest Area stated that the tree was diseased and that he recommended
to the board that the request by the resident to remove and replace the
tree at the owner's expense be approved. Mario Voce moved to approve
the tree removal request, Jan Stillwell seconded the motion. Motion was
passed unanimously
2. CTAB Summer Schedule — Next Meeting Wednesday September 4, 2013
Ernest Area suggested they suspend regularly monthly meetings until
September, unless something urgent comes up. Action does not require
board approval. Board members in agreement next meeting to be held
September 4, 2013
BOARD MEMBER CONCERNS
A. Pending Action Items
1. Lampson Ave. — New Zealand Christmas Trees, Being Topped?
Ernest Area stated that letters had been sent out to six residents regarding
proper care of trees owned by the City and requesting information on who
performed the illegal tree topping. Ernest stated he did not receive any
feedback from the residents who received letters.
2. Lampson Ave. Median — Lampson Ave. New Tree Plantings
Ernest Area stated that a final walk through had been completed and that
24 new trees were planted. Paul Christanson complimented the work that
was completed comparing it to another local project that was done at the
same time in a different City.
3. Lampson Ave. Median — Condition of Existing Eucalyptus Trees
Sean Crumby stated that an analysis of the trees is being completed by an
arborist.
4. Grants/ grant writer
Sean stated that there are no current grants being applied for, but any that
becoming available will be researched.
5. Tree Planting
Wednesday—June 5, 2013
Ernest stated that 46 locations on Hazelnut and 29 locations on Ironwood
have been identified as locations for planting of 40 trees. Ernest
suggested that for beautification purposes it would be best to plant all 40
trees on Hazelnut. Paul Christanson agreed. All 40 trees will be planted on
Hazelnut.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:15 p.m.
