V. ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION
A. Selection of events & projects
Celebrations Workgroup Chair Marc Loopesko provided a forecast of proposed
Centennial events, dates, and associated costs/revenue (attached). Chair Loopesko
indicated that the forecast is conservative.
Fundraising Workgroup Chair Weir provided an overview of the fundraising program
(attached). Chair Weir indicated that the proposed Souvenir Program could help
merchandising efforts by having an order form in the Program. Chair Weir also
expressed interest in obtaining congratulatory letters from the President, Senators, and
others of this nature on the occasion of the City's Centennial.
Marketing Workgroup Chair Seth Eaker indicated that the Centennial logo contest is
underway and more than 12 submissions have been received thus far. Chair Eaker
provided the proposed Marketing Budget (attached) and plans to add narrative to the
Budget to provide a description of some of the items listed.
Merchandise Workgroup Chair Nancey Kredell indicated that obtaining merchandise to
sell will require an outlay of costs, but will ultimately garner revenue. Chair Kredell
indicated that the Merchandise Workgroup is interested in selling t-shirts, sweatshirts,
reusable bags, among other items. Chair Kredell showd the Taste of Seal Beach
materials from a previous year and Seal Beach notecards, also from a previous year.
Current Seal Beach notecards are in production.
Chair Eaker expressed the importance of branding Centennial items that are sold.
Assistant City Manager Patrick Gallegos informed the Committee that expenses less
than $1,000 do not require quotes. Expenses between $1,000 - $5,000 require two
quotes (minimum) and expenses greater than $5,000 require three formal quotes.
History Workgroup Chair Dobkins provided an outline of proposed historical projects
(attached). Chair Eaker suggested that the History Workgroup look at uploading to the
cloud as part of the program.
B. City charitable status
Assistant City Manager Gallegos relayed to the group that the City Attorney determined
that donations to the City to support its Centennial celebrations are tax deductible.
C. Chair updates
The Committee expressed an interest in reaching out to local schools regarding
incorporating Seal Beach history into the curriculum and advertising Centennial
activities in the "Shoreline" classes and activities guide as well as on inserts in the
water bills.
Chair Dobkins indicated that the Red Car traveling on wheels on the original path is not
feasible, so no further activity will take place on this effort.
D. Determine next meeting date & time
The next steps for the Committee are dependent on the Executive Committee, so the
next Chair Committee meeting will take place at a date after the Executive Committee
meeting, which has not yet been scheduled.
VI. CHAIR COMMENTS
Chair comments were provided as part of the Chair updates in the discussion earlier in
the meeting.
VI. ADJOURNMENT
