HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Res 5208 2004-02-23 RESOLUTION NUMBER ~t')11 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH HONORING AND RECOGNIZING COMMANDING OFFICER CAPTAIN ROBERT A. "RUSTY" MlRlCK I WHEREAS, Captain Robert A. "Rusty" Mirick has served as Commanding Officer of the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station from August 2001 to the present; and WHEREAS, Captain Mirick has served with distinction since his graduation from the United States Naval Academy (USNA). While attending the Academy, he completed initial Navy diver training (SCUBA), Upon graduation from USNA he received his eOrnnl.ission and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Oceanography, WHEREAS, Captain Mirick has served on the following Navy vessefs: USS McCandless, USS Pigean, USS Bolster and the USS Hoist where he was the COrnnl.anding Officer. During his tour on the USS Hoist, the crew was awarded a Secretary of the Navy Letter ofCornnl.endation and the Navy Unit Commendation, WHEREAS, Captain Mirick has also attended Surface Warfare Officers School, and the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Ca., graduating with a M!lster of Science Degree in Engineering Acoustics, Captain Mirick has also attended the National War College, Washington, D,C" graduating with a Master of Science Degree in National Security Strategy. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal. WHEREAS, Captain Mirick has participated in the rescue and salvage of KAL Flight 80 I; directed island restoration and Apra Harbor salvage following supertyphoon Paka; various'sueeessful Pacific Fleet salvage operations; and was involved in the search and salvage of Alaska Airlines Flight 261, I WHEREAS, While stationed at SBNWS, Captain Mirick has served as Commanding Officer and Navy Region Southwest Assistant Chief of Staff for Weapons and Explosives Safety. Also, twice a month, Captain Mirick volunteered at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, by diving inside the various tanks, with the fish, to perform maintenance for the Aquarium. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Seal Beach hereby honors and commends CAPTAIN ROBERT A.
